I just got a new Palm m515 and want to transfer all the data from my old Handspring Visor Deluxe. I'm running the latest version of Palm Desktop for Mac OS X on a Mac PowerBook G4. My Handspring crashed and burned just before I got the Palm so the only source I have to the data that was on it is on my computer from the last HotSync a few weeks ago.

It seems that I should be able to plug in the new Palm cradle and do a sync from the Mac to get the last batch of data from the Handspring into the Palm. is this correct? How exactly do I do this? What data will transfer? Just the calendar and other data from Palm Desktop or will I get all the data from the last HotSync of my Handspring?

thanks in advance for your help.

Well, for anyone else who's interested, since I didn't get a reply here, I called Palm customer support and they talked me through the process.

Here's what I found out.

The version of Palm Desktop, even though it's version 4.0 and even though it's made by Palm, that's distributed on the Handspring Web site will not work with a Palm PDA. At least that's the Palm party line. I had to carefully delete every scrap of Palm software from my Mac EXCEPT a few things:
1. A copy of my Users Data from the Palm Desktop to save my data
2. The Palm default fonts file
3. The Palm file that Outlook Express uses (if I used Outlook Express which I don't.)

Next Steps:

Download the latest version of the Palm Desktop software for Mac OS X from the Palm Web site -- the version on the brand new CD wasn't the latest version.

Start up the new Palm Desktop

Import the copy of the Users Data

Export each of the modules (address book, memo, to do, etc.) one by one and save on the desktop

Do a new hotsync

It worked
