Hello Everyone,

We purchased an EG-800 as an experiment for our maintenance department. I work at a lime plant and our maintenance foremen have to be outside quite a lot. The maintenance foreman that was using the machine had to stop using it because the outdoor visibility of the color display was really poor.

Is there any other unit on the market that provides a color display with reasonable viewability? Any additional help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Greg Sparks

Ipaq 3900 series have excellent screen visibility.

What are your thoughts about the new transflective screen technology?

I don't know much about the techical details of this new type of screen, all I know is that it looks much better than reflective screen. The other factor is how the screen is lit, I believe 3900 ipaq is backlit instead of sidelit, which again make it a lot brighter. The indoor viewability is excellent for this new screen, outdoor may not be ideal yet, but it's still very good. This is an article with some screen comparison, may give you some idea:

I agree that the new screen on my 3950 is far superior to the one on my 3630 everywhere "except" outside with no backlight turned on. In other words, if you are outdoors with the back light off on both models, the 3630 screen is more readable. Now, having said that, am I going back to my 3630? No way!! The 3950 is far superior in every other category...
