i have 1990 eclipse (uses OBD-I) & currently have a palm iiix which i use for a datalogger. the datalogger software is called "mmcd" & i love it, but the iiix does not play mp3 files.

recently, i have been rethinking my whole stereo & electronics setup. i was thinking of gettting rid of my multidisc cd-changer & getting a stereo receiver that plays mp3 files or allows for a mp3 player connection via an external input. then i got to thinking why not swap out my palm iiix too with a pda that can do both datalogging & play mp3 files?

my goal is to have a pda with a datalogger loaded on it that i could also plug into my car stereo receiver to play its mp3 files. is this do-able??

i have researched pricegrabber (& similar sites) for pda's which also handle mp3 files. the list i saw from those searches did not match this list of pdas which can operate the datalogging software: http://mmcdlogger.sourceforge.net/#Palm%20Support

is there a more recent, updated list?

i want to believe there does exist at least ONE pda that can host mmcd & mp3 files which connects to my OBD-1 port.

so does anyone know of a pda with this capability?
or another datalogging software that can connect to a OBDI port??

I don't know about datalogging, but form the list on the site you linked to several of the Sonys will play mp3s. However, this is a pretty old list as many of these units are now out of production. Do a search on E-bay on the Sonys listed as compatible. You may find a good deal.

thanks thingdriver. i guess i failed to mention thati would prefer to identify a palm or another pda that is compatible with my palm IIIx accessories in particular, the hot sync cradle.

that beign said, from what i have read so far it seems i may be out of luck & have to get another pda anyway. i had thought the tungsten "w" model might meet my needs, but it appears to be incompatible with the iiix's hotsync cradle :(

anyway, i may end up going to a different unit altogether like you suggested.
