Using m515 with Palm OS 4.1 and desktop 4.1. Hotsync reports that it cannot connect to either my laptop or my desktop computer using either the cradle or a direct cable. Both use USB. The error message is, "The connection between your handheld computer and the desktop could not be established. Please check your setup and try again." I did that, reinstalled the desktop software, rebooted the Palm, and emailed Palm support. None of that helped. Support said it couldn't be solved by email and invited me to spend $25 on a phone call, since 6 months is beyond the abysmal 3 month warranty period. (Please excuse the editorial comment.)
I tried using the IR connection on the laptop and get a message saying the port is in use, by what I do not know.
I can't change any software on the m515, of course, since I can't connect to it.
Is there anything else I should try before calling Palm?

I have a m505 with the same problem! But here's the kicker. I just upgraded from a TRG Pro, because it stopped hotsyncing. Some of the tech helpers at my office and I have tested my computer, and my hotsync cradles. They work perfectly. The handhelds also work perfectly, except that they can no longer establish a connection with the desktop. I can only surmise that something in the software has damaged by handhelds' ability to make the connection to the desktop.
I just upgraded to HandDBase 3.0 a few weeks before my TRG Pro failed. My other 3rd party software is Intellisync (although I know it doesn't have much to do with the handheld. Does any of this sound familiar? Any more clues?

Have you tried backing up your data and then doing a hard reset? In the HotSync Manager, is Local USB selected? Good luck.
