How can program icons be removed if I use the iPAQ uninstaller ('Remove Programs') and icons or .exe placeholder icons are left in the Programs screen with the app name labelled.

e.g. I tried Pocket Informant and deleted it using Remove Programs yet an item is left on the Program screen called Informant Utils.

There is no apparent reference to that app in the file structure that I can find, also no item in Start or StartUp folders.

Ditto for app called ADBIdea. Deleted it properly but placeholder .exe icon remains in Programs.

Thanks !

Open File Explorer on the ipaq, go to My Device.. Windows..Start Menu.. Programs, and go to the icon in question, tap and hold, you will see an option to delelte it.

Hi,

I did a search for my problem & found this thread, however, it doesn't work for me.

I installed Nyditot Virtual Display 3.10 trial version. After deciding that I don't want it, I used control panel on my desktop running Windows XP to remove it there, and also ran "Remove programs" on my Ipaq 3650. Now it still has the "Virtual Display" icon in my settings file under "system" on the Ipaq, & the name of the program is still listed on my desktop control panel (with no program behind it), & I can't remove either.

Any help?

Thanks in advance.

First reinstall so everything is there when it trys to uninstall.

The uninstall failed because the system was still using Nyditot for its drivers (video, touch screen and keyboard drivers and color and font settings).

After the reinstall soft reset of course.

Then run NVDRestore.exe on your PPC found at http://nyditot.com/Support.asp

This will give your system back control, and take nyditot out of the loop.

Soft reset again.

Now uninstall.

Should work.

Hopefully it didn't get screwed up bad enough that you have to soft reset, or else hopefully you have a recent backup..

Answer Dude

I followed these instructions, however the icon is still there in System-Settings. I didn't notice before, but when I tap on the icon it brings up the "about" screen which tells you that the trial has expired & how to get the registration number (pay for the full program).

If anyone has any other solutions, I'd be glad to hear them. I also sent an e-mail to Nyditot to see what they have to say, however I'm not confident of a response, since I'm not a customer, & don't want the software. If I do get a response, I'll be sure to post it.

If its a question of living with one meaningless icon or hard resetting, I'll live with the meaningless icon.

Thanks for your efforts and all your work on these forums. They are of great value.

Im having similar problem as Lex. Have multiple copies of a program icon on programs screen. I deleted the program so that the icon leads to nothing.
When I tried Answerdude's solution File expl....My Device.. Windows..Start Menu.. Programs, and go to the icon in question, tap and hold, you will see an option to delelte it., I cant find anything saying "windows" under "my device". All I have is "my documents". Whats up?
