Hi Folks

I have been passed one of these units from where it has sat on a desk for some time not working.

It does not start when the power button is pressed, but, does start when the reset at the base of the unit is pressed. It also starts when placed into the cradle.

The first thing it does is start vibrating. The only way to stop this seems to be be to pull the battery out of the back.

While it is vibrating, it does seem to start, and gets to a screen with the message "Tap the screen to setup your pocket PC", but, tapping the screen does nothing.

I do not have any original documentation or software (I am still trying to find either).

If any one has any ideas, I would appreciate hearing them, even if it is only to say toss it.

Thank you for your time.

It sounds like battery problem, try completly charging it, if it's fully charged and still showing problems, you may need new battery. If the screen problem presists, the screen may also be damaged.
You can find user manuals from hp in the 4th sticky link on this forum (iPaq's manuals download links from HP)

Thanks for the pointer to the manuals.

I will try to flatten the battery completely, then do a complete recharge to see if this helps.

Any idea if it is possible to make the screen 'think' it has been tapped to test if it is a faulty screen?

The screen looks fine, but, I guess the ********ics to detect a tap could well be faulty.
