Blackberry 6710 problem with phone

Has anyone had problems with the phone portion of the Blackberry 6710. Mine seems to work ok with the earbud, but when I hold it against my ear like a phone it fades in and out. I'm wondering if it's a hardware problem.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Best thing I could say to try, it trying it in an area with a definite strong signal. It sounds like you are on the fringe of a signal which is very weak, and putting it up to your head is blocking a portion of the signal.
