Hello,
I have a very strange Psion 3c (given by a friend; he didn't tell me how it
happened) : it is sticky, very sticky (and let black marks on the hands)!
Can I do something to clean it? Is it a manufacturing defect?

The same happened to my Series 3. Mine had a matt, velvety finish. I think it must be a surface coating or treatment that causes the problem because friens with Psion 3 series PDAs with a different finish don't have the problem.
I tried lots of cleaners without success. In the end, I sprinkled it with talcum powder to take away the stickiness and then scraped off the soft plastic (repeatedly) until it stopped going sticky.

Thank you for your answer!
I have had a lot of Psion - no problem with a case. This one comes from a friend, and I realize it is hopeless to clean it... I have to repair it (recase) at Posltd...
I will use it as a backup when mine (3mx) is in repair for the broken icon strip, each 2 years generally...
And I'm still looking for a new hardware solution to replace it, I need something like the "data" application to manage tons of data I have typed on this Psion 3... I have not seen anything like that with the Palm machines or others... there is some free/sharewares on internet for that, but I feel it is not safe or perennial...
Thank you for your thoughts about that!

I used scouring powder mixed with washing up liquid on a damp cloth. Rub well, remove with damp cloth. Repeat till non sticky. Result in smooth outside surface. Don't make cloth too wet to avoid mixture creeping into the Psion.
Is it a manufacturing defect?
Yes it is, it's THE 3c problem.
Yes you can clean it, how? I don't know.
I bought a cleaned 3C and now it's a fine Psion.

Does this problem also affect the Siena? My Siena currently has that "matt, velvety finish" Alan describes.

No, the 3 classic and the 3a use a different finish, with no sticky problems at all.
