ok first,

the battery life on this ipaq i got ( refurbished model off of ebay) isn't that great. playing a game for around 45mins will bring my battery charge from 100% to around 20%. is this normal? mp3 playback results in a similar thing.. even listening to 4 mp3s can drain the battery to the point where I get warning messages. If this is normal I'll live with it... how long should I be able to listen to mp3s for on a full charge (this is with a 128meg CF card and sleeve).. model is the 3600 by the way.

2nd question.. it takes me around 8 minutes to upload a 35meg file to my compaq via usb. Is this right? or does this seem slow to anyone.

also, my ipaq suffers from the speaker problem, whereby I have to squeeze the unit very slightly around the headphone jack to get the speaker working again. If anyone else has gotten this problem fixed.. how much did it cost? my ipaq isn't under warranty anymore. I called compaq and was told that it would cost me $30 cdn to pay for shipping there and back, plus it would cover a tech to look at the unit.. then they would call me back letting me know how much the repair would be. am I best to go thru them or through someone else like http://www.linearlogix.com/

any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

1) Yes. That battery life is normal. To play mp3s for longer turn of the screen during palyback.

2) if you mean 35mb then yes, it is normal. if you mena 35 kb then no.

3) I'm not 100% sure about this one. Make sure you have all the iPAQ updates.

how do i turn off the screen during mp3 playback? I had one app (beatnik) that allows me to do this, but can it be done with media player? (i'm not talking about having the backlight off, i'm talkin about having the screen actually off).

in WMP just go to tools > settings > buttons ands on the upper square choose toggle screen and select the button you would like for this. X everything even WMP if you want and press that button to turn the screen on and off.

If you use the ipaq for playing i strongly suggest never using the backlight to its maximum. you would be surprised how much battery you save by this. Also look into buying a CF adapter with a battery, it helps.
