So I have a new 957 Rim and the notification is set to vibrate. I am used to a Motorola Timeport with a nice heafty vibrate. The vibration on the Blackberry is two very short bursts.

Are there any options to change the duration or number of times the vibrate function works. (I see it is possible with the Tone setting but I hate beeps.)

TIA,

Set the "repeat notification" to "high".
In the 2.1 software this option is under "options"->"notify"
in 3.5+ it is under "options"->"profiles" , select the current profile, then set it for each individual item (calendar, tasks, alarm, etc)

I'm on 3.5+ and I made the changes from the preceding post but on incoming messages or pages the unit only vibrates once. If I set it to Vibrate+Tone with X beeps, and it Vibrates once and beeps X times. Should it Vibrate the same number as the beeps?

No, the repeat notification will basically make it vibrate once, then wait a few seconds or so, then again, then again, and so on. You can't make it vibrate more then once per email ijn a row.

Well then something is not right because the repeated vibrates are more like 60 seconds apart when I set the notification on high. I'mm keep playing.

So I guess there are no third party notification products?

The mail software sparrow will let you customize notification more explicitly:

"This version also has super-charged alerts, where you can pick between; Pulsed and Continuous vibration, Tone repetitions and pauses, you can also control the vibration length from a teeny .1 second to a monster 25 second duration. It also has a repeat interval which you can set to alert more than once. These alert enhancements, overkill for sure, were generously sponsored by Mike Greenberg" - Chris Faherty

You can get the feature-loaded Sparrow at http://rallypilot.sourceforge.net/bb/. It's free.

Will this software work on the 2.5 handheld release?

That's what I'm using and it works fine for me

another solution you may want to look at is Wireless Onramp (www.wirelessonramp.com).... they have a really cool app that lets you set different notifications for different evets, whether they are email, pin, calendar, alarm..... Only for x50 or x57 devices at this point. with 3.5 for x50/x57, profiles are already included... as well as all java device software.
