Hi guys,

I'm trying to figure out how to do this on my HP 6515.

I'm trying to set up a sync system like this:

I have two computers, Desktop Home (H) and Desktop OFfice (O) and my 6515 Phone (P).

I sometimes enter things in O which I want transferred to P and which I'll trnasfer to via syncing H.

I sometimes enter things in P which I want transferred to H but not to O

I've tried looking at the sync settings and I can't find a way to only have one way sync from O to P. I'll set the sync for two ways from P to H.

The only place I see is a conflict resolution setting, but I understand that setting that does't help my case as it only works when we are talking about the SAME item being modified on different devices, but not different items to be kept away from diffrent devices

Last time when i was using the Palm OS, we could specify the direction of synchronisation, either A to B, B to A or synchronise.

Is such a method possible in Windows Mobile?

Thanks!

I think it will depend on what items you are synchronizing. Outlook, PhatNotes, etc. But I know that some (PhatNotes I think at least) allow you to makr things private. Then you could tell O to not sync private items, and H could sync them.

Also, if you can specify categories, you could use a similar system.

And no, I have never found a 1-way sync mechanism on PPC like you can on Palm. Pity.

Thanks Dafuse for your advice, it opens up some ideas for consideration.

In particular, I'm syncing Calendar entries. The thing is that I usually create the entries in "O" (ie typing in the appointment name, time and date.

After the appointment is over, I will type in some notes on that appointment in my PPC (much like a personal diary of sorts). However, as these notes are private, I only want them to remain in my PPC and also a backup in H.

Any suggestions?

Well, I checked an idea, but it doesn't work. I thought maybe only sync'ing future appointments with O and all appoitments with H, but you don't get that option. You have to go at least 2 weeks in the past.

I'm assuming that by "type in some notes on that appointment" you mean that you take the notes in teh appointment record, notes field. Unfortunately, you can't sync part of an appointment record: it's all or nothing.

So my only suggestion it to use a separate program (I use PhatNotes) to take your meeting notes, and set it up to sync with H and not with O.

Dafuse - thanks for the idea.

How about if I tell you that I'm willing to do this:

1. I usually only edit future appointments on O - time/place etc. I seldom (if almost never) need to edit it on my PPC or at H. I may need to view it on my PPC though and better if can view at H.

2. Once the appointment has passed, I would enter meeting notes on my PPC or on H. These meeting notes I would prefer to stay BOTH on PPC and on H if possible. I dont want these meeting notes to ever appear on O.

Once the appointment has passed, it is no longer necessary for anything to be updated on O (hence perhaps your update future records between PPC and O may work?).

Based on the above, I would be grateful if you could suggest something to make this work.

Could I try:

(a) - between PPC and O - sync all future appointments ONLY
(b) - between PPC and H - sync all past appointments ONLY

the only downside is I'll never get to see on H, anything that is on O until the appointment is over?
