Hi,

I have just bought a new HX4700 (discontinued) at what I though was a bargain price but now I think I have bought a pig in a poke. My Psion 5mx died on me and a wanted a stand alone PDA to enter and read data. However, it seems that I can't do this unless I install Activesync which I don't want to do. I don't want to sync or update any files, I just want to use the HX4700 as a stand alone machine.

Is it possible to have my PC "see" the HX4700 hard drive as a mass storage device and / or the DS nad the CFII drives? Can I create text files on an CFII card, plug it into the HX4700 and have Pocket Word read them? (and write to them?) all without having to install Activesync?

I gues you'll be thinking that I ought to move with the times but oh how I miss my Psion 5mx! It only let me down once in 6 years and that was when it expired recently! It did all I ever asked of it! Now I have this fancy piece of technology and it can't do something this simple!

Any help would be greatly appreciated

There is a programe called card export 2, this then lets the PC see the cards in the pda, treats it as a card reader. Also putting documents and text files on the card should show up in word etc.

But for a lot of software its easier to install using active sync, or if you get the cab files use cab install, a free programe and you can install the programe to wherever you want, cf card, ipaq store etc.

Cab install from here

Card export from here

http://www.softick.com/pocket-pc/cardexport2/

also a good programe is resco file explorer, with this i can view my home networked computers shared drives and copy and paste etc to my pda, dont know if that would be more benifit to you?

Thanks Badgerdid,

Your reply is greatly appreciated. Your suggestions seem to provide what I am looking for. Incidentally, when I loaded up the Activesync CD to see what additional software was on it, it kept trying to access the net. Why should it do that? I thought perhaps that I had some other programme open but they were all closed.

TIA

I think it's opening Internet Explorer on the desktop. And you probably have it set up to dial connection automatically, in IE, check under Tools - Internet Options - Connections tab.

You're a Star Answerdude!

That was exactly what was wrong - the connection setting had been changed. Why did I not think to check that?!

Many thanks for your help!
