Battery went totally dead and I lost my address book. I replaced the battery and now it says "can't communicate with computer" when I try to hotsync. The hotsync manager window doesn't pop up on the computer when I try it and the entire hotsync menu is grayed out in the palm desktop. I do get the beep indicating when something connects to a USB port.
I tried hard resets,... any more ideas. Do I need to go through set-up again like when it was new??

Here's a dumb question but does the Hotsync manager icon show up in the system tray? I noticed that when I close down the hotsync manager by selecting exit it greys out the choices in the Palm desktop.

Nope,.. nothing new shows up in the system tray? What does that tell me. Is my hot sync manager disabled or broken,.. would re-installing the palm desktop fix it??
How could this be related to a dead battery? Am I having two problems here?

When you say nothing new shows up, does that mean the hotsync manager icon is or isn't there in the system tray? Try rerunning the hotsync manager application if it isn't in the system tray. Perform a hotsync and let us know what happens.
I don't know if the two issues are related but I've had problems where the hotsync manager shutdown during a problem when hotsyncing.

Thanks for your help, it was as simple as that! A long time ago I cleaned out my system tray and must have removed the hotsync manager? I assumed it would start up when I needed it? The new battery works now and I'm good to go.
As much as I whine about computers, internet forums are pretty useful :)
