AnswerDude 07-04-2006, 12:33 AM Yes, you can, as long as the hotspot is opened for public or does not have special encryption or security features. The built-in browser does have less features and functions than the laptop's so besides having to scoll around quite a bit, you may not be able to experience browsing the same as laptop. There are 3rd party browser such as Opera and Netfront that can perform better. cyperalz 07-06-2006, 10:45 AM I did the ROM upgrade Sprint offers on the website, and it erased EVERything I had installed and input into my phone (which is not too bad since I just rec'd the phone and didn't have too much info on it) The big problem is that I can't get the phone to work on ActiveSync anymore. It worked before just fine, but after this ROM upgrade, the furthest it goes is to "Connecting Device" message on ActiveSync on the computer (did for over 30 mins). So I removed the program off the computer and re-installed, but still it won't go past the "Connecting Device" message. And there's no sign of ActiveySync running on the phone itself. It's as if the phone doesn't realize my computer is trying to connect to it. I unhooked the phone, and re-installed the program on the computer all over again, re-started computer and phone, and hooked phone to the comp again, but the same thing is happening. Again, there's nothing happening on the phone, it's as if the phone doesn't realize my computer is trying to connect to it. What do I do? Thanks, AnswerDude 07-06-2006, 10:59 AM What version of Activesync are you using? If you have not already, try the latest 4.2 http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/downloads/activesync42.mspx You may also want to hard reset the phone as well. cyperalz 07-06-2006, 11:36 AM AnswerDude, I installed the 4.2 version and am still having the same problem.. won't go passed the "Connecting" message on the ActiveSync window on the comp, and no indication of ActiveSync on the phone itself.. THIS IS SOOOOOOOO FRUSTRATING!!! I can't move on the w/ the phone!! any other recs? Please help! AnswerDude 07-06-2006, 12:38 PM Have you recently installed any firewall or security program on your desktop? Also check the usb connection if it's seated properly. You may want to try another usb port. Try looking in the Device Manager on the desktop for an unknown device. If there is one when the the phone is plugged in, then delete the device. Then reboot and try to connect again. Finally if you backup the pervious version of rom before you upgrade, you can restore it back and see if it's the new rom problem. cyperalz 07-06-2006, 01:08 PM UPdate: Wanted to correct something from previous post: Phone is act responding, bc it says ActiveSync "connected" on phone. But when I manually hit ActiveSync program on my phone, it says "To Sync w. a desktop computer, install ActiveSync on your comp... " but I've already done this. To answer your questions: No, I have NOT installed any firewall or security program. And USB is working just fine as the phone says connected, and computer recognized new hardware. I also tried a different USB port. Also, "unknown device on my device manager"... would it literally say "unknown device" or did you mean something I wouldn't recognize? I looked through Device manager and there doesn't seem to anything out of the ordinary. Also, I didn't backup the previous version.. didn't think I'd have to :( since I downloaded it from the Sprint website. Any other recs? I know there has to be some solution... cyperalz 07-06-2006, 02:14 PM AnswerDude, Ok the problem was the Firewall... fixed it and it started to sync but stopped bc my work comp doesn't have Outlook!! DOH!! Anyways, so I have to try all this at home pc which has Outlook (fix Firewall). Hopefully, this is the only problem (fingers crossed)! I'll keep you updated. Thanks for your help. cyperalz 07-06-2006, 09:44 PM The problem was the firewall and old version of software... once these were taken care of, it worked!!!
