is there a way to put picture backgrounds or wallpaper on the desktop of the main icon menu?

i dont think theres a way to do that, but there is an application called spraypaint which you can download from this site (dont bother unless you have a color palm ) it allows you to change meun, hilight, scroll bar, etc. colors
