My iPaq hX4700 has been acting very strange this week. It kept turning on itself and would not turn off, thus draining the battery completely. I don't recall me making any setting changes, nor installing any new apps. Fortunately, I'm using WM5, which frees me from needing to reinstall everything again. But its still annoying because I can't use it when I want to. Any pointers?

Do you have activesync set to schedule sync after a period of time? Also check inbox setting if you have it connect and check messages every certain time.
You can also try soft reset the iPAQ to close all running programs and turn off wifi and bluetooth before you put it away.

I've made sure that activesync does not turn on itself, meaning, the settings is currently on 'manually', and also made sure that for each of my email accounts, the setting for 'check email automatically' is left unchecked. Am I still missing something?

The only other thing is if there are any programs that try to connect to internet to retrieve information on a regular basis running. That's why i suggest turning off both bluetooth and wifi and soft-reset to make sure all programs are closed.
