I've dusted off the Psion 7 from its place on the top shelf, after 3 years using Palms of varios types its become clear that the Psion is a better option.

After browsing PDA Street I contacted Expansys who, amazingly, had personality modules in stock and I now have an upgraded, fully working 7Book. :)

However when it comes to WiFi it gets very confusing, I'm not sure exactly what is available or where from, or if it will work when I get it. The forums seem to be full of posts about the wrong kit / chipset etc.

Any help from you more experienced chaps out there? It would make the machine so much more use with Wireless.

Wellcome back in the Psion community.

1) You did the upgrade to a 7Book, but did you also the upgrade in memory?
Chritoph Pulster (http://www.pulster.de/) have the 32MB memory (http://www.pulster.de/netbook_speicher.htm) in stock.

2) When you will work wireless, try the Orinoco silver (64bit encryption) or the gold (128 bit) card. That will solve your problem. I think that RichardQvS (http://www.pdastreet.com/forums/private.php?do=newpm&userid=45272) have these cards in stock.

Hi Claretkid,

Here you can find a (not complete) list with compatible WiFi-cards: http://www.epocfaq.co.uk/faqNetworks.htm#LANcompat

I have tested several brands myself on my netBook like Wavelan (no WEP), Orinoco Gold, Compaq WL110 (= rebranded Orinoco Gold), Buffalo Airstation, Dell Truemobile. They all worked fine.

Thanks, I've found the link, they also have a Cisco WLan card for 29 euros, but I don't know how much power it needs - come to that I'm not sure which build of 7 I've got. I've e-mailed them for more details but can anyone identify it from the picture?

Just been tracking a 32mb RAM chip on e-bay - currently stands at £155 with over 3 days left to go!! Don't think I'll be going there.

When you will work with a Cisco card, you don't have encryption. You must work with an open system.

Thanks, Kees. I'll look for an Orinoco Gold I think, even though it obstructs the pen.

I think that the Orinoco Gold is a good choice. ok it obstructs the pen, but you can now encrypt up to 128 bit.
128 Bit Encryption slow down the traffic, I think the 64 bit is a good alternative.
success.
