Have Opera 3.62 installed to CF card on my series 5 leaving about 5.6 MB of memory. the program does not get going properly and usually locks up and 'stalls' I then have to close it done by performing a soft reset. Similer problems have occurred with the web program also. The e-mail works fine and succesfully connect with both a travel modem and the mobile phone no prolems at all. I have tried uninstalling and re installing both opera and web, running one with out the other and have all the updates from the psion web site and but still no joy? Would it work better if the Poera was installed directly to the 'C' drive and sacrifice some memory or is the series 5 not to good with internet anyway? Sorry long question :p
I'd say that 5.6MB is not really enough free space to run Opera. If I were you, I'd try moving (uninstalling and hen reinstalling) a few more applications from C to D, so as to free up some more memory. Try shutting down all other open apps as well - this will free up yet more memory.

Have deleted moved some, but most of the C: drive is taken up by system apps that probably have to stay there. The properties of the C: drive indicates that the capacity is 7.03MB used 1.23MB and free 5.8MB. Does opera usually work ok on series 5?
Ahh, sorry, I hadn't appreciated that you hav a 5 and not a 5mx. I would say that the 5 will be hard pushed to run a web browser, both because of memory restrictions and slow processor. That said, I am not saying that it won't work outright.
Anyone else browsing the web on a 5?

Fair enough if it is unworkable then will give up!! By the way in the C:\system there is a folder called Recogs that is 1.85KB what is this? Just wondered as wont make a lot of difference to 'capacity' anyway!!! I will have to get another 5mx as this works faultlessly for Opera and e-mail. Thanks again Nigel
Good plan I reckon!
The Recogs folder contains files that help the system identify which app is responsible for which files on your disks - the 3rd party app installs a file or files in this folder. Not all applications seem to use this method, however.

I can remember being quite stunned the first time I got it running, via my cellphone, and was able to go straight to a favourite site. Oh, how we take these things for granted now!
Opera is definitely a memory-hungry app, so I think it is pushing it a bit to expect it to function on the S5, but I would have thought Web would be OK. It's bound to seem slow of course, if you have previously used a 5mx.

I have had a clean up and have uninstalled the opera and all its bits and pieces, reinstalled the web program and have had good success connecting to web via 'web'. Yes is slow but O.K as the series 5 is now my chuck it in my pocket organisor!! Only site that was hard to connect to was this one! No text only option here? thanks again Nigel
