Earlier I posted about an e-bay sale of a 32mb memory card, with a bid of £1070.

The thread was removed by a Mod, I assume because it was not verified. Just checking the link again the item is now on for £150 (which is still a lot of money) and a bid of £1050 has been retracted, presumably a typo by the bidder.

Apologies for misleading anyone, I had no intention of posting anything untru but I suspect the tale unravelled once the ebay bidder realised the error.

Still think £150 is a huge price for a memory card which is available for 69 euros elsewhere!!

See item number 200004048677 on ebay.co.uk (check the bid history)

This was not an auction for a compact flash memory card as you seem to suspect! This was an auction for a memory upgrade to a Netbook or Psion 7. This is a completely different thing. It finally went for £155 which is a fair price as these are really difficult to get hold.

I realise it wasn't a CF card, and checking the post I cannot see where I said it was. It is clear when you look at the item on e-bay just exactly what it is. I originally correctly described the item as a memory card; if you want to call it an upgrade thats fine by me.

OK if you think £155 is reasonable for a memory upgrade, I've just bought one for 69 Euros from www.Pulster.de so I thought that was more reasonable (!) - he appears to have more in stock too.

Please don't assume that just because I'm a new poster I don't know anything!! I can vaguely remember soldering together a ZX80 many years ago, so I've had plenty of opportunity to learn about flash memory.

It's probably tempting to imagine you're inexperienced (even just subconciously) when you are a "Junior Member" and have "kid" in your name :-)

I am sorry that I offended you. I certainly was not meaning to insult your intelligence, more I was trying to help and clarify what was said.I realise it wasn't a CF card, and checking the post I cannot see where I said it was.
By calling it a memory card this leaves the interpretation open to it being a CF card.

if you want to call it an upgrade thats fine by me.
Thanks ;)

By ebay standards this is fairly normal - I am not saying you cannot get it cheaper elsewhere.

Please don't assume that just because I'm a new poster I don't know anything!!
Because you are new poster I would suggest not to start by taking metaphorical strikes at other members to this forum - particulalry when I was trying to help and clarify your original post! I am certainly not implying that you know nothing! :D

Not a metaphorical strike at all. Just responding to a post that not only implied that I didn't know what I was talking about but also that you somehow had superior knowledge and felt the need to impart it to me.

Thanks for the apology though. Pity you didn't just finish there. :(

I have been watching this discussion unfold over the last couple of days.

I have to say claretkid, that I also thought from you original post that you were refering to Cf cards.

I still don't see from Tim's original post what you took offence at. From looking at Tim's post count I see that he has been here for a while longer than you and me. Possibly in that time there have been others who have appeared with daft questions that didn't add up - how was he to know you were different?

I see from other post by you that you have asked questions to others here, do you not like the fact that they have superior knowledge to you?

I don't actually get what you think he needs to apologise to you about? Maybe just learn to not get so easily offended in the future. As for having superior knowledge it come across to me that you are the arrogant one in this discussion. Just my observations!

Don't bother replying to this message as I'm not sure I want to get involved in a gutter war with you. I would have thought the fact that we all have an interest in Psions would mean that we have something in common, and not a reason to attack and divide the community futher, particularly in light of the recent threads on the subjects of 'Where are all the Psion users?' and 'A Psion Saga'

Hey Guys,

This has got well out of hand. I simply posted something to say that I had found an e-bay item going for what I thought was a lot of money, maybe to warn people that not everything on e-bay was cheap. Thats all.

Then we had a misunderstanding about CF cards (which I never mentioned) and an assumption that I had the wrong item in mind. I responded, then got flamed, then responded again, and have been flamed in spades by someone I've never met or spoken to who has a) accused me of 'dividing the Psion community' and then b) told me not to reply.

Hey chaps, I only made an observation. Never expected this to go like this, sorry I rattled anyones cage.

What I would say, however, is that the response to this thread does not show the 'Psion Community' to be particularly friendly, or welcoming to newcomers.

I posted because I thought it might be nice to be in contact with some fellow dinosaurs who have stuck with relatively old technology. I thought it might be a bit of fun. Maybe I'll just stick to simple questions in future where everyone is happy that the newbie is just displaying his ignorance, rather than posts that suggest I might have a mind of my own.

I still have a lot to learn about the 7Book as the last time I used the machine it was just a 7 and my internet connection was by slow dial up. The information on the forum has been very useful and eneabled me to purchse both a memory upgrade and a WiFi card.

Apologies, then, to everyone for causing any grief. Then again, the original post was an apology and that didn't get me far, did it?

Finally, JP7, I didn't at any point suggest that The FD needed to apologise to me, I thanked him for the apology he made spontaneously. And I don't think my original response demonstrated 'offense' nor indeed 'arrogance'.

I'll not post on this thread again so if you've nothing nice to say I'd suggest we all call it a day.

Claretkid, I don't wish to be rude, but I do agree with The FD that you are over-reacting - although JP7 (another new poster) hasn't helped the situation either. If you ignore his post, I don't think that anyone has said anything nasty or condescending. It mostly seems a misunderstanding that has grown:

You said "a 32mb memory card", which certainly sounds like a reference to a CF card - even though it was really just an unusal way to refer to a memory upgrade.

The FD said "a compact flash memory card as you seem to suspect", which implied he wasn't SURE you meant a CF card, but wrongly thought it was likely. I would hardly say he was assuming that he had superior knowledge, and that you have none.

All in all, this seems like a storm in a tea cup about some minor misunderstandings. Probably best it is forgotten, since no-one meant to be nasty.

I'd already forgotten it (see my last post) but thanks for your kind words.
