Hi, I'm new to the Psion, and have a Series 7 which I want to upgrade
with the netBook personality module. I installed the module and
downloaded the netBook OS from psionteklogix - which I put on a 256MB
CF card formatted as FAT16. I followed the advice to remove all
batteries for a while then booted up. I see the netBook splash screen
and a progress bar as it reads from the CF card. Then a single beep and
a white screen. Nothing else. I tried a couple of different CF cards
but the behaviour is always the same.
Any suggestions? I hope the upgrade module isn't faulty (I wouldn't see
the splash screen and progess bar, right?) so I guess there may be a
problem with the CF card or OS. Any help appreciated.

Perhaps you are using the wrong OS.IMG file, or your downloaded file is corrupt? I would also recommend ensuring that the personality module is properly connected (reseat it). BTW, you can't use a Series7 memory upgrade (16MB) with a Netbook personality module, so remove that if you have left it in.

Thanks for the reply, but to date, no progress has been made.
I have taken this topic over to comp.sys.psion.misc at Google Groups, where the forum seems a bit more active.

I tend to agree with this statement. I had a similar problem when I upgraded my other Series 7 last year. I found that even after I disabled my firewall,spy-sweeper,and pop up blocker my download of the file was missing a header. I purchased a San Disk card reader/writer and downloaded the file directly on a cf card. The file loaded with no problems. Hope this information helps.

I have to admit that I simply don't use newsgroups these days, but I found his thread here:

Actually, that thread is mine too - under a nom de guerre :)

Sorry to come to this so late, but I hope I can offer a useful pointer. I went through the process of uppgrading a Series 7 to a 7Book earlier this year; I found the Vakoverky web site (http://portal.vakoverky.net) was a very useful source of information and corrective patches for the Netbook OS. I was able to follow the instructions with no trouble to get an updated OS image, which I put on to a 16MB CF card (originally came with my digital camera!) and used to install the Netbook OS. I did it again, too, after I'd left my 7Book lying around for so long that both the main and backup batteries had gone flat...

Hello Ian,

The link doesn't work :-(

Oh dear, I'm sorry about that! If you'd like to send me a PM with your email address, I can zip up the patch files & instructions for you, and email them. The patch file is pretty big (about 6MB), but the others are reasonably manageable. The OS image file (which I downloaded from the Psion web site - I hope you can do likewise) is, of course *really* big - about 15MB, so I won't try to email *that* to you!

Hi Ian,

you have only forgotten one 've' in the address: it is http://portal.vakoveverky.net/
