I've been using my Sharp Wizard 9600II for the past 8 years with high degree of stability and reliability (in spite of drops, etc!) and recently it's signalled that it's gone into a coma with messages like:

“The memory in the organizer is not
Initialized or it is impaired.
While holding [ON], press and
Release the RESET switch on the back.
TURN OFF”

which I comply with but get

"Do you really want to initialize the
Organizer main memory (this will
Delete all main data?)
YES NO"

If I reply NO--it loops endlessly back to the originally message;
the only way out of the loop is to hit YES :-(.

So I sent it off to ROMAX Enterprizes for repair at 1722 N Greenville Ave, Richardson TX 75081-1808. (I was pleased with the last fix they did last year--replacement of flexible cable).

I have all the data backed up to RuppLynx 6.0 rev 4 and am trying to restore to a ZR-5800 (Zaurus) but it's not working--on the Zaurus I'm using the PC Link, Cable(Import) (per page 35 of manual) but when I do the usual Send from RuppLynx I get message "Orgnizer not responding - check connection and try again" [sic].

So maybe RuppLynx needs reconfiguration so I look under File, User Preferences, Model Selection but all the options are OZ-xx00. :-(.

In Program Modules there's a ZAURUS.DLL but it's grayed out.
Do I need to obtain that module before I proceed?

With this as my only back up at the moment I want to make very sure that I don't unintentionally scramble or lose the data otherwise I would be more prone to experiment.

Anyone who can share expertise on this delicate conversion process would be appreciated.

Thank you.

In Preferences under Tool Bar Setup you need to change the option in the drop-down window from OZ-9000 series to ZR-5000 series. This should give you the proper toolbar at the top of the screen, and the proper fields for your data to be viewed in. (If you don't have the ZR-5000 series as an option in the toolbar window, maybe you don't have a full RuppLynx program and will need to upgrade it).
But it sounds like you are not even viewing your data in RuppLynx? To move the data from your OZ to the Z, I believe you need to first open it in RuppLynx and save it to a dataset compatible wth the Z's file structure. For example, your Tel/Contacts fields need to be the same in the Z as in the data from the OZ, and the same is true for your user files etc. I don't believe you can do a restore to a Z using a backup file made from an OZ, as a direct process. The operating systems are not the same, so the data needs to go through an intermediary program like RuppLynx so that it's reformatted. There is a software program that can read a backup file but I can't recall where it's available. It's NOT a Sharp or Rupp product.
If I misunderstood, and you are working with a dataset instead of a backup file, you can work around not having the full version of RuppLynx. Download a new copy of the demo version and install it with the ZR functionality selected (the demo gives you ONE choice of unit to try the program with). Make a copy of your OZ's dataset file first, then open the copy in the ZR-enabled version of RuppLynx. You will first need to configure your "virtual Zaurus" in RuppLynx just as you had your OZ configured (Tel fields names & number of fields, date format, time format, etc.). If you can read your OZ's dataset in RuppLynx, it should load to your Zaurus. The only other problem might be if you have the Z's communication options set improperly. Try the "autoconnect" option in the data transfer window in RuppLynx. If there is a problem with your connection, you will get an error message. If not, your PC and Z should be communicating ok.
You don't say, but I assume you expect to get the 9600 back and reload your data to it. Once you do that, you can use IR to send your data to the Z (assuming the fields are set up the same as in the OZ). But I think your goal is to use the Z while your OZ is being repaired.
If you want, I have an old 9600 and could assist by doing a restore of your file and then export to a RuppLynx dataset file that you could open and then load back to the Z. (But then I would see your data, which you might not want). Or we could work something out on you using the 9600 yourself.
Hope the above is helpful.
