I browsed through a copy of a hand held computing retail mag. in Comp USA last night (sorry forgot it's name - maybe "Hand-Held Computing":)) and as expected it was full of reviews and features on Palm and Pocket PC devices. However, there was also coverage on keyboard based hand held devices too. As expected, I didn't see any mention of Netbooks at all. However, what took me by suprise was a full page colour Psion ad. for the Netpad.

This prompts me to ask a few questions:

1) Psion's emphasis changed from retail to corporate customers a year or so ago when they abandoned new hardware developments aimed at the retail customer - is this ad. placement a sign that they are returning to the consumer scene?

2) Why present just an ad. for Netpads when this was a golden opportunity to show both the Netpad and Netbook to a very relevant audience (though primarily in the USA)?

3) Has anyone seen any "recent" corporate statements as to Psion's forward market strategy? I'm unsure of the current structure and ownership but maybe if there are any private shareholders they may have an annual report that states Psions objectives.

On past history poor marketing focus has let this company (and ultimately their retail customers) down badly. We must be the most loyal bunch around but I personally still feel that Psion aren't that interested in us (or are they now?). They still have the most complete hand held computing solution around - what's stopping them? (sorry that's 2 more questions!)

I have no idea about your questions. The thing that does come to mind is "left hand does not know what the right is up to". I can not really follow all the psion changes, from good ol psion PLC we have psion digital, teklogic, symbian, symbian partners, and I am sure there are a few others, or maybe they are all the same just masquarading as many to seem more than they are. Its a mystery to me, yet as a psioneer I have a love that surpasseth all understanding for these machines :)

Don't we all - and there lies the problem!
