Last September got a Magellan Companion for my M505 and it worked perfectly. After several uses I went to connect to the Companion and the m505 started Squawking and the screen went to the datebook where it appeared to be writing sort of an equation. After I had disconnected the unit I noticed that one of the alignment lugs on the Companion had broken off. I epoxyed it back on,but it did'nt stay put; so I got a repair # from Magellan and sent it back. They responded quickly with a new unit and a nice carrying case--first class service!
I had done a hard reset on the M505 and it seemed to be working normally, however when I hooked up to the new Companion it did the same old thing--squawking,etc.
I've several hard resets with no success and finally I ordered a set of small Torx drivers and opened up the m505 and disconnected the battery for a half hour--again no luck. It just squawks and switches the screen to datebook and writes a kind of equation. A sample is:
A diamond in a square followed by -09c8c=0cjtw;;ccc=-c-c8=c0c=c=[c-9-c-]c=]c[c[t
Has anyone got the any idea what the heck is going on with my m505. It seems the only problems involve using the serial universal connector with either the Magellan Companion or my Dealorme Earthmate with XMap.
