Create copy of Garmin SD CARD

Hi,

I purchased an authentic Garmin City Navigator SD card with the maps of the USA for my NUVI 350 with Europe maps pre-installed. I was hoping to make a copy of this SD card for my wive's NUVI (also Europe maps pre-installed) but get a "can't unlock maps" message when booting up the NUVI with the copied SD card. Any suggestions?

Unlock codes are unique to each device. So even though you may have a copy of the maps on another device they are useless without its own unlock code. I know when you order City Navigator on a DVD from Garmin you can obtain 2 unlock codes. I don't know if this is true when you purchase the maps on a SD card. You can call Garmin to find out.

I belive (from what I have read else were), that in the case of Garmin maps that are pre-installed to SD cards, the mapping data is locked to the SD cards I.D., in such a way that the original SD card can be swap from one GPS unit such as a Nuvi to another such unit and still be read / used. However not backed up and re-installed to another SD. I have heard that there is a way around the SD I.D. but this is in breach of copyright

if you own a iQue 3600 or similar, and put a SD in then go to "Card Info" this will supply the unique SD card I.D. number, similar to a GPS units serial number.

I think that Garmin gives you the capability to use your maps on 2 different Garmin gps that you own for a small fee. So I think if call Garmin and pay the $15 they will give you a code for using your maps on that other garmin gps.

I'm sure that there's others on here that no better than me. Speak up dual users.
