Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : Key Code for now obsolete CoolViz 2

A few weeks ago I downloaded a trial copy of CoolViz 2. When I finally ran it, I found it to be by far the fastest image viewer I had found (particlarly with large JPG files) and one which gives excellent rendition on a 12-bit color screen.
Unfortunately, when I went to the manufacturer, RealViz, to register/purchase the software, I found that they no longer sell or support it. I have emailed them and got the same brush off. I can still run it by backdating the PPC to the trial date, but would like to obtain a working key code to permanently unlock this orphaned program.
Could anyone out there provide me with a working code since RealViz wants to have nothing more to do with this fine little program?

Greetings;
I have a registered copy of CoolVis 2.0 and love it, I have found, to date, no better image viewer. The only downfall is that they no longer sell the software and One is not allowed to give out registration codes on this board or use this board to to so.
If a moderator posts saying it's OK to post the code here because the software is no longer sold I will try to find it.
Sorry
Scott

If a program has gone obsolete or the company no longer exists, it is perfectly legal to give our registration codes, because the company will not make money anyway, since they no longer sell it.

Please give us the legal citations for this. I don't recall any ruling that says a company loses rights to their property if they stop selling it.

maybe i should have been more specific, if the company will not sell you a copy, or give out registration codes, because they no longer support the product, then you may give out registration codes. But you should contact the company to see if it is okay. They will probably have no problem with it, since they no longer care about the program.

They may issue permission but that is against their best interests. The problem is that if they do that, it is very easy for others to claim that the software is now public domain. In other words, they are voluntarily giving up their rights to the software. Once in the public domain, they can't get it back.
If they were willing to let people use it, they would have converted it to unsupported freeware thus retaining ownership. Microsoft, for example, issues Power Toys this way. The fact that they haven't done that indicates that they have other plans or they just didn't think about it.
By the way, rereading my first post I realize that it may have come across somewhat cold. That was not the intention. I was in a hurry and maybe came off a bit blunt. Thanks to my brother-in-law being a lawyer, I have become overly sensitized to "common knowledge" of law that just isn't correct.

I have just arrived and read everything with great interest. Whatever happened? Things just petered out.
Even if one had the registration codes it would seem they are of no use!
Can one get coolviz anyhow?

You can still get the 30 day trial version of CoolViz v2.0 at Tucows and probably other shareware boards. A URL for their download of CoolViz is:
http://pdacentral.ozbytes.net.au/pocket/preview/200436.html
It is available for PocketPCs with SH3, ARM, and MIPS processors.
Still don't have a KEY to get by the 30 days. Strikes me as a little wierd. Fortunately, at least the back-dating trick works.

Thank you judcrosby. However, when I down load it tells me it expired 2001 sometime so I cannot even backdate.
