I know this question has asked and answered before but I can't seem to search for the answer. so here's the question again.
When the pc compile the map where does it store on the pc (path please..) so if I can find it and can I transfer the GMAPSUPP.IMG using the card reader, does this method of transfering work? 'cause it takes too long using hot synch.

Don't know where it stores it on the PC. That can be easily found by doing a search for the file, but I just compile the maps and send them directly to the card reader. It puts them in the GARMIN directory just where it belongs.

Can't find it!!!!
Now next question: If I have hot synched it earlier..Does that mean the .img file have transfered from c:\Garmin\ and gets deleted?

I believe the path is \Palm\username\CardInst\Slot-SD and yes it does get deleted after a hot sync. To confirm this location try compiling just one small map area but don't hot sync otherwise you'll overwrite the maps you already have on your iQue. Delete the test map from your PC.

Can't you bring up MapSource and compile the maps to be transferred directly to the card reader? Or are you using the iQue program to transfer maps. If that is what you are using, I would suggest you try MapSource and see if you like it better.

Yeah! It does get deleted! as it is not in the dir
C:\Program Files\Palm\username\CardInst\Slot-SD\****.img

I also use MapSource to compile the maps instead of Palm's MapInstall. After the maps are compiled, instead of performing a hot sync I insert my SD card into my PC's built in SD slot and transfer the *.img file over. You also have the option of saving that img file by moving it to someplace other than the ...\Slot-SD folder so it doesn't get deleted.

Just a clarification to prevent confusion: You can send maps directly to the card reader from within either MapSource or MapInstall (in Palm Desktop). There are plenty of good reasons to be using MapSource instead of MapInstall, but this is not one of them.

Can some clarify the difference between Mapsource and Mapinstall? so mapinstall is from Palmdesktop and where is mapsource?

It's a stand-alone program from Garmin. It is used to manage a whole array of GPS products (downloading to GPS, unlocking maps, etc.,) as well as a pretty good map viewer.
