I'm having a new problem with my venerable iQue 3600: the map page won't draw the screen the first time you access the page after turning it on. I've had this iQue for several years without trouble. After turning it on and trying to see a map it won't draw a map, rather it just has a blank map background. You have to go to a Palm application, like the note page or the phone list, then come back to the Que application and only THEN will it draw the map. Turn it off then back on and the same thing happens, it just says "drawing" in the upper left forever.

Anyone seen this?

I have not heard of this one before and probably cannot be of much help. Just thinking out loud here... Betty can't find or load the Basemap in memory without having a previous call to something in memory. Hmmmm... how about re-installing the basemap? Perhaps an internal pointer to the basemap got corrupted??? Just speculation. Hopefully someone else has seen this behaviour.

Thanks for your input Tom P. I agree that it's some sort of pointer not getting properly initialized after a power cycle, I just can't imagine what caused it. I have years of trouble-free operation on this unit. I reloaded the basemap from a fresh Garmin website download and that didn't fix it. I changed memory cards to no avail. The only application I've recently loaded was a trial version of iSilo, which I've since deleted and still no help.

It's the darndest thing....I've noted that after power-on if I switch applications but stay within the Que applications, like Que GPS, Que Tracks, Que Routes, it will not draw the map on the map page. To get it to draw the map I must begin a Palm application then go back to Que Map and it will work fine from then on.

Some piece of software must have gotten corrupt, but a Hot Sync didn't fix it either. Might be time for a reinstall. Uugh.

Well of all things.......
I seem to have fixed the problem. I was starting to do a full reinstall of the OS when I decided to try something simpler first like pushing the reset button. Good idea, it worked. It now properly draws the map page when accessing Que Map the first time after a power on. This unit has been so trouble-free that I can't remember the last time I had to do a reset - and I use it a lot too.

Lesson to others: When weird things happen try a simple push of the reset button.

Sometimes the obvious is overlooked! That would have been the first thing I would have tried but I did not even think of it when responding to your problem. I have reset Betty numerous times for various things and I instinctively reach for the paper-clip when something goes awry. Now why didn't I suggest that to you... duh, who knows? Glad you got it working!
