Zire 71 has a 'broken' screen

well, a cat jumped on a cabinet and knocked the Zire off. when i turned the Zire on the screen looked as if it was half ripped off (or as you'd imagine if it was a piece of paper ripped apart.

this looks ominous since it is a hardware issue i guess. does anyone know if this is fixable in any way shape or form?

also, my synching software no longer recognizes the Zire ... think i should re-install it?
