Not available yet in stores. You might be able to get lucky and get it off of ebay. Some ebayers ship for free if you use BUYITNOW.

expect to pay over retail on eBay. The demand is creating a nice market on eBay for these boogars. The only stores you could possibly buy from are the Dell Direct stores which would end up ordering from the same system that we are all waiting on.

I doesn't make sense. I'm sure you could order a HP iPaq direct from the Houston assembly line and have it within 4 days. What about these things could possibly take 2 weeks to go from InProduction to Kitting? Based on logic, I will assume that by the time the website catches up to the actual production line, I will have my Axim in my hands. I'm sure I'm not the only one to feel this way.

Working for Dell for over four years now, I can tell you that Dell will never place any of it's products in retail stores. The closest you will get are television shopping programs or e-bay / online purchasing. If Dell were to cut retail stores in on it's products we wouldn't be able to keep our prices the same, thus the Dell Direct Model.

I'm in Toronto and ordered one last week (Dec 3rd) from dell.ca. Tonight, the unit has been shipped by purolator, so I should have it tomorrow.

That's not bad of a wait at all.

Your other option is to wait for Friday and order one from TSC. It's featured at 9pm.

Veritas, that's not true.

Costco sells Dell systems in their stores (pre-built).

COSTCO does sell Dell however I was under the impression it was a wholesale outlet requiring some sort of membership. I was referring to retail stores, i.e. BestBuy, CompUSA, Circuit City etc.

I'm a little surprised by the folks who are frustrated with Dell right now. The demand for this little Axim sucker is stunning...with very good reason. Currently, in my office, I know of 11 on order...including 3 from me. I've had mine for about a week now, and it's really outstanding. Several co-workers have various models of the HP/Compaqs, and the little Axims give them a run for their money...at 1/2-1/3 the price.

Dell's demand for this guy is off the charts right now. No matter how well prepared a company is for introducing a new product, this kind of demand is hard to keep up with. Of the people I personally know closely..say about 30 folks that are great friends and family...half of them (14-15) have the Axim on order right now. All but two have never owned a PDA in the past. It's really amazing to me.

Cheers,
John

Well, I'm pissed at Dell because:

1) They screwed up my first order (or else I'd have had mine already)
2) Their sales people don't know one end of the company from the other. I was transferred during one call THREE times to the same voicemail dead-end hell, despite pleading with them to ensure that it didn't happen again, and to stay on the line until I was connected.
3) My latest attempt at buying this thing was 11/29/02 and it still is in "assembly" (or maybe not even) with no indication of when it will ever progress.

This product may be great, but I won't order from Dell again.

I've bought scores of things on-line from companies big and small, and NEVER had such an ass-backward experience. I'm used to buying, getting immediate confirmation, having it shipped and receiving it all within a few days to a week.

Dell's been in business a long time. Why can't they do this? Why so many problems?

I agree with others: If they don't have the stock, they should say so on their site (like a real-time stock indicator). If it's on back-order, SAY SO!

If you don't have it and can't get it, then DON'T TAKE MY ORDER until you can!

I don't think I'm being unreasonable, and I refuse to feel "sorry" for them. They're Dell for Pete's sake!
