Hi, I know very little about palms or pocket p.c.s., so I need to hear from those that know all about these things! I am wanting either a Palm or pocket p.c. to put a program onto to take my gluten free food searchable shoppping list with me to the grocery store. I have been watching e-bay and checking overstock.com for good pricing. It doesn't have to be new, used would be ok, if it were reputable. Here is what the program says are the requirements:
Palm
Minimum System Requirements:
The Celiac SmartListTM for Palm Handhelds is designed to run on PalmOS. Handheld Versions: 3.5 and up with 4 Meg ram; Windows 9x/NT/XP. Download the demo FIRST to see if it runs on your computer. For more information on which handhelds are compatible with our software, read our FAQ page here.
Pocket p.c.
Minimum System Requirements:
Your Pocket PC must have .NET Compact Framework 1.0 SP3 Redistributable or above and have an arm processor. If you don't have .NET Compact Framework 1.0 SP3 Redistributable on your Pocket PC, you can download it here.
In order to get the pricing down for me I was wondering if there was an older Palm or Pocket p.c. that wouldn't be too old, to not run what I need, but not too new so that it costs and arm and a leg. Also, I noticed that the Dell Axim X51v says its lead free. Are they the only one so older ones would have lead?
I want something VERY easy to use and see. I have an HP computer with windows and know how to run that and will have to syc it up to that for shopping and updating. I am thinking that the Palm may be too complicated to figure out and maybe I should stick with the windows environment in a pocket p.c. Some of the reviews said, even though the Palm might be more less expensive, its harder to read the screen too.
What would you recommend I look for. Palm or pocket p.c.? And, what do you think about used, so I can get better pricing? And, if so which one? And, what model would you recommend I look for? I need something not too complicated for me to learn (a grandma), long battery life-so won't run out while out shopping for 4 hours, easy to read screen, no lead, will meet the minimum requirements of the program I listed above.
Just tell me a couple of model numbers that would work and I will go looking for them. Also, are there places to buy used ones that would be reputable on line? Thanks
