My 760N has a flashing screen, with the backlight turned off. The power light also flashes. The hold button is down (do not hold) but sliding it up or down has no effect.

If I press and hold the power button, the screen comes on and says "Palm Powered". When I release the button, I get a message asking me to press "UP" to erase all of the data, anything else to save the data. I did not try pressing "UP".

Right now, I am keeping it alive in the charging cradle.

I tried a soft reset with no effect. Before I try a hard reset, can anyone suggest something?

You could try doing a Warm Reset

A Warm reset bypasses any system extensions (such as hacks, OS patches, etc.) that are loaded on your handheld. Performing a Warm reset will often bypass the "boot loop" error, allow you to remove any third party application that has recently been installed that might be causing the problem.

To perform a Warm reset:

Press and hold the Page Up button on your handheld.
Use the tip of an unfolded paper clip (or a similar object without a sharp tip), gently press the reset button inside the hole on the back banel of your handheld.
When the Palm logo appears on the screen, release the Page Up button.

If that doesn't work, close your eyes and kiss your data goodbye, a hard reset is your only option left. Thank God for backups! It's a good idea to regularly back up to your mem stick using MS backup, since if your power fails while you're away, you can restore it when you get back to your charger.

I tried to warm reset on my CLIE to no avail. Thanks for the advice - it was worth a try. Luckily I had just sync'ed
