Does anybody know how to maintain a self-created logo after the battery dies, or a hard-reset is performed?

Please help!!!

Guessing from your question I assume that you are loosing "self created" art on reset. I am surprised. It would seem logical that they would be saved as part of the associated application during backup. Do you use BackupBuddy?

DrMud: Alright, here's the situation. My company is order 400 m515s and giving them out to potential customers. I need to take our created logo, and install it in a way, that when a hard-reset is performed, or if the battery completely dies, that it will still remain when the palm is turned on. I obviously know how to display the logo when the palm is turned on and off ... that's not my predicament. I've used jacksprat and verious programs, but nothing seems to accomplish this particular task. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Oh right! I forgot to mention, that once the palms are given out, the customers can do whatever the hell they want with them. BUT, no matter what they do, we wish that our logo still be displayed. You're right that everything should get backed up, but we don't want it to, because we don't want to depend on the customers to sync with their computers to obtain all the back up information. I have a few programs that I must install as well, and hope to maintain ... but since the programs are always being updated, is there a way to allow DBs to be put into FLASH ROM?

Your outside my expertise. I am sending your posting to a friend "Alex" out on the west coast. If he can help he will post in the thread.

There are programs that allow you to add things to the FLASH image for FLASH memory devices (such as the M515).

You might try a Google on "romeo palmos rom". The things I found there were not hopeful for an M515, but it might be a start.

JackFlash and FlashPro could be used. Those who don't know the special resets for them would not be able to replace your logo.

Note that someone really savvy can always replace the FLASH himself and thereby get the device back to a pristine, factory-fresh state.

If you wanted it bad enough you could use JackFlash to install into flash ROM:
1) Xmaster
2) ImagerX hack
3) an ImagerX logo.pdb:

Look for Imager X for supporting programs:

Remember, someone will have to do this 400 times!

JohnKes: I've already tested my palm with X-Master ... but the problem is, when I do a hard-reset, or my battery dies, the logo entirely disappears, or else I'd have to go back into x-master and re-configure it, I don't want to do that, I want the logo to automatically re-appear through a hard-reset, and I plan on hiding whatever program I use to display the logo, so my customers won't be seeing it!

If you put items 1, 2, 3 into flash ROM, they won't disappear after a Hard Reset. Only stuff in RAM disappears.

JohnKes>> I've now run into more problems ... I tried doing what you suggested, and I didn't even get the logo to show up, I installed everything correctly, all 3 *.prcs , and I even tried different logos ... it doesn't even display when I turn it on or off

I've used jackflash before, and I know how to transfer information from RAM to ROM, and I know that ROM info doesn't get deleted, and RAM does.

You sent me to a site where I could get all this information ... the cindy logos site, and I read near the bottom (what the author wrote) .... that if I do a reset and when I turn the palm back on, I should get a pop up message asking if I want to re-install hacks or not, then if I do proceed with that, then hackmaster is re-configured so that the logo will display again, however, this is not what I want to occur, I don't want that message displaying at all, I want the system to KNOW to display the beginning logo

to better explain it: kinda like the Palm Computing logo in the beginning .... no matter if the battery completely dies, or a hard-reset is performed, it's still maintained! that's what I want!!! thanks for all your help guys, any ideas now?

If I remember right, Hacks don't work from Flash anyway.

Telyx: Any idea how to do it then?

Alright guys, forget my long message on not being able to do it.
It MUST be possible for hacks to run in flash, because a competitor showed me on his palm, that it IS possible to maintain your logo through a hard-reset .... I did it myself for proof!

Now, what I need to know is, how the hell he did it!

Like the Palm logo ... I need my company logo to display like that, no matter a hard reset or a dead battery, it still shows once you turn it on.

And for all the hacks I've tried, I don't want it to say ... "do you want to re-install your hacks"?

I hope somebody out there can help! Thanks for all your replies!

I wish I knew! There has to be some way to find where in the ROM the Palm logo is stored, and substitute a different image there.

MasterMind, are you sure it was a HARD reset? I'd love to know how it worked...not that I could do it with my non-flash-rom m125 or Visor Deluxe, but I could mess with my wife's PalmPilot Personal (w/"Palm III" upgrade).

And as far as I know, if any Hacks were running at the time of a reset, you will get the message asking if you want active Hacks re-activated.

Telyx: Actually .... you DO have the option of whether or not you want that message to appear .. again, you need to hack it , there are ways around it....

I wish I knew as well! My competition knows, but I don't ....
pretty sure it was a hard reset, I pressed the 'up' arrow myself to delete all the data, and his logo still re-appeared....

I hope somebody CAN figure this one out...

Palm has embedded different Start flash logos for special promotions. Given the number of units your company has purchased I imagine Palm might be willing to help.

DrMud: Yeah I've actually thought about that, but seeing the fact that my competitor can accomplish this task without the help of Palm, I'd like to do it myself as well
