Dear Psanta,

I would like a bluetooth card to work in my psion. That would keep the bad elves at microsoft away from my door...

Please give a developer somewhere whatever he wants for xmas so that he is so happy he will develop a driver....

I'd like full networking capabilities (i.e. not having to use an FTP server on my PC), bluetooth and a good outliner application (like Natara's Bonsai for the Palm ... The one Palm app I really miss).

Sorry Simon but this always bugs me.

You do not mean 'full networking capabilities', you mean Microsoft Networking :(

I just hate it when Microsoft's marketing (marketing is the only thing M$ have always done well, IMHO) manages to hoodwink otherwise smart users.

Sharing folders (and printers even) with Microsoft Windows is not a god-given network right, it is provided by a Microsoft Networking client. FTP is not a god-given network right, it is provided by an FTP client.

Sorry for the rant, but its a personal hobby horse of mine

In any event, I would be more interested in Linux networking capabilities since some Linux word processors can handle native Word files and I think that a couple of spreadsheets can handle Sheet files.

Does that get me off the hook (probably not! :( )?

An honourable intention, but its exactly that kind of dumbing-down that Microsoft depend on. Stop me if I'm getting vigilante but I think its up to power users like us to educate the masses...

Cool. I'm getting a bit more spare time these days, so I'm going to look at writing an MS CIFS client. If this goes well, SAMBA's the obvious next one I reckon :)

Errr, getting back to what we'd all like for Christmas...... ;)

Psanta, please can I have a RAM upgrade for my netBook, a colour screen for my 5mx and a complete change of heart for Psion PLC?

I don't ask for much, do I? :D

dear Psanta could you deliver me a Brand Spanking new Psion Netbook? i know i've been bad and deserted my OS family but the pull to HPC was just to much, if you can deliver a Netbook i'm sure i'll be able to repent my sin or at least be able to coexist;)

dear Psanta, Please let Julies wishes come true, especially the bit about psion re-entering the market. And also can we please have a psion that works with a Mac, maybe a usb or firewire also. An email app that allows searching for and within emails and the ability to store loads of email on the psion app. A newer brighter screen to use in daylight on the netbook which uses no extra battery. Super large and fast CF cards at good prices, and an even bigger memory upgrade than 32MB Dimm and an even faster processor.

Yours faithfully, truthfully and hopefully

Dear Psanta,

I've been a good boy this year (well, -ish. And Fairy Tinkerbell was enjoying it as well...), so I'd like something for Xmas. Please can you find a stash of replacement screens for Psion 5s and 5MXs, so that I can go on repairing them for other keen users. I'm not greedy, I don't want to make too much money, I just wanna help other users. I'd even pay for the screens - how about £30 each - and provide my time for free in repairing and replacing then. :D

Dear Psanta, Please could Psion come back into the market with a new netbook with a newer brighter TFT screen to use in daylight, more memory, a faster processor, stereo sound card with jack for earphones & mic, and a TV card.

:p i'm sure that you know what i mean. psion will soon no longer sell to us mere retail users and then no longer service them (please thak the woman in the north of england who answered my calls with lots of cheer). well from you're implication you are in the know about psion, well anyway any nugget of info you tell us will be tresured.
cheers :p ;)

Hi Makoman....Well, hopefully I am in 'the know' as I'm the Product Marketing Manager for netBook!

Regarding SONICblue....they never made the product, we shipped it to them customised with their logos/branding etc. But no...they have pulled out of the market and we haven't shipped anything to SONICblue for well over a year.

Mmmm,

An updated 5mx with colour screen, USB or firewire, upgraded RAM and processor and the ability to add a networking CF-card (802.11x rather than Bluetooth) as well as a memory one. Oh, and a headphone socket so I can use the 5mxxx in place of my MP3 player.

In fact Psanta, you don't even have to deliver. Let me know when this dream item is available, and I'll lie in wait, hijack your sleigh, immobilise Rudolph, Dancer, Prancer and Ponser and help myself!

While these rumours of a new NetBook sound promising (cue creak of coffin lid opening for Psion?), the 5mx's pocketability make it a far more desireable upgrade for me. And it's not as if it faces any real market competition either!

Now where does Psanta live again?

Ho, ho, ho - that one really did 'sleigh' me. Such witticisms are really bad for one's 'elf'.

Now I'd better be going, according to the weather report it's about to 'rain dear'.
