What are the things you cannot do without? Calvados 08-29-2002, 01:39 AM Congratulations on your new PDA and sure hope you enjoy yours as much I like mine. Here goes for a few: DateBook 5 -- repalcement for the datebook & it iw wonderful Datebook 5 Link (http://www.pimlicosoftware.com/) Popup Names -- adds featrues to the built in address book and can be brought up in any program Popup Names Link (http://www.benc.hr) MobileSafe -- to keep private information private on both the Palm & the desktop Mobile Safe Link (http://www.handmark.com) CardBackup -- to backup & restore the Palm to SD Card Card Backup Link (http://www.jkware.com) UltraSoft Money -- to take care of finances & suncs with MS Money UltraSoft Money Link (http://www.ultrasoft.com) ThinkDB -- Data base program for both palm & desktop -- I use it for so many things I can't list them ThinkDb Link (http://www.thinkingbytes.com/) These are the ones that I could not live ;) without, there are others that I have and like but they would be the first to go if it was a question of RAM getting short and having to start deleting something. As far as items, the list is short but important for me: 1. A good protective case 2. SD memory cards (I have 2 cards of 64meg) 3. Sync cable & travel charger when for when I travel 4. Pentopia stylus (it has a floating point) Hope this helps and have a good day, Calvados djmangen 08-29-2002, 09:18 AM A couple of items that are very useful to me. 1. Wordsmith (http://www.bluenomad.com) which is a reasonably full featured word processor that integrates with MS Word and, when attached to a portable keyboard, gives you the ability to manage quite lengthy documents. This is a large program, but one which have saved me from hauling a laptop on several business trips. 2. Docs-to-Go, which I use mainly for Excel. IMHO, a passable spreadsheet. I'm still waiting for something better. 3. HandBase - another database program. 4. Avantgo (http://www.avantgo.com): a free service (under most circumstances) that allows you to download news, weather, etc. to the Palm. Some channels on Avantgo include BBC, New York Times, The Economist, etc., etc. 5. PiDirect: A card manager that lets you use a memory card more effectively. 6. RoadLingua: A dictionary program with reasonably good sized dictionaries that are also reasonably quick on the Palm DANGERMOUSE 08-29-2002, 12:51 PM Hi wotansmann! If you like e-books then I would recommend PalmReader. A nice uncomplicated program. There is also Abode Acrobat for handhelds. Great for downloading manuals so you can browse whilst stuck on trains for instance. DateBk 4 is a great replacement for the diary and is intuitive yet comprehensive in it's design. (Oops, Calvados has already said that one!). Avantgo (snap, djmangen) is a cool program too. Update it before you leave the house and you've got a whole newspaper to read whilst stuck on trains. I love trains - don't you?!? :D Hope you enjoy your new toy! See you, DANGERMOUSE. PilotUser 08-29-2002, 04:14 PM I use a shell program "Launcher III" which adds to the usability of the Palm, IMO of course ... I'm also want to check out "OmniRemote" with which you use your Palm to replace the various remote lying around. You can download configuration file for different devices at: www.coolremotes.com Enjoy your m515 ... I am with mine !! dr_vlurk 08-29-2002, 09:50 PM I use SilverScreen from http://www.pocketsensei.com to make my palms look better and more colorfull... One product that is well suited for heavy AvantGO usage is Avantage 1.3 from ToySoft: it allows you to move your channels to your SD/MMC card! DayNotez 2.6 is also a wonderfull software... it takes note, keeps track of them easily and allow you to convert them into palm standart doc format. However it still lack the ability to use drawings into your notes (help anyone?!)... 4.0Student form handmark is not so bad if you are still going to college or unniversity. You can insert all your school works, exams and course infos and synchronize them with your datebook or todo list. I am still looking for something better/different though... You can`t live without BackupBuddyVFS if you are using your Palm seriously. This little wonder makes a complete backup of your palm to your SD/MMC card. MyWorkBench is a very good file manager. it allows you to move files between your Palm and SD/MMC card, makes directory structure on your card and obtain many infos about any file that lies on your palm. It can even change/set some of their hidden attributes. The Kinoma player/encoder is also a very nice piece of sotware if you are considering traveling with some videos. it can play them directly from an expansion card too. I also use (and like!) other softwares (IpTracker, Workouts, etc, etc, etc...) but they may not be usefull to you at all. pauldunstan 09-02-2002, 07:11 AM I also find Metro invaluable, It is a freeware program which can automatically calculate journeys for you on most of the world's larger transportation systems. DrMud 09-02-2002, 11:06 AM I'm a big fan of HanDBase if you need really heavy duty data bases handled. I think the DateBk series is a good choice. DateBk 4 has a lot to offer and is smaller in size and less money than DateBk 5. If you use Quicken on your PC, Pocket Quicken from LandWare.com. A good Bible reader from Laridian.com. And one of my all time favorites Planetarium (see link below). DrMud PS: I use MegaLauncher and find it an excellent, reliable tool for launching apps from the memory card and just simple organization of the 57 apps on my Palm. http://www.palmgear.com/software/showsoftware.cfm?sid=10333920020201010741&prodID=1698 braddy 07-10-2003, 10:16 AM BDicty -- a reader program for alot of languages. Also, there is a vast selection of free lexicons for BDicty, available at Beiks' web site http://www.********** ksolopass 07-10-2003, 09:56 PM Franklin Covey Software, simulates hardcopy planner. Advantgo.com----syncs with internet. JJ Phelps 07-14-2003, 03:43 PM I also use BDicty dictionaries, but when it comes to studying the Bible I prefer the specialized Bible software of GMPSoft - www.gmpsoft.com (http://www.gmpsoft.com) PDA Street
