I had an issue where my battery ran down and I lost some settings. On my Today screen it shows that I have 4 emails for a particular email account that isn't in my settings any longer.

If I try to recreate the email account, I get an error stating that it already exists.

Any ideas how I can delete this account or trick mobile 5.0 into thinking it doesn't exist?

Try un-check inbox item from Today screen (Start - Settings - Today) then soft reset the unit. And try delete and create new mail account again.

Thanks for the quick response.

I have nothing to delete. When I go into messaging, the account in question does not appear, only only the Today screen.

Is there a way to delete it in a folder or something?

Am I reduced to reinstalling just outlook take care of it?

You can hard reset the unit. You should backup any files that you created or have on the unit to the desktop.

Note the name of your missing account, Mine was AOL IMAP
This is how it appears in the today screen, For example minde would say AOL IMAP: 4 Unread

Download and install PHM Regedit, its free.
Start messaging, Setup a new account, same settings as missing account, when it asks you to name the accounts put your misisng name, AOL IMAP for me, press next it will say it already exists and that you cannot use that name, now click start, programs and launch PHM Regedit

Goto
HKey_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\INBOX\SETTINGS

Find CurServiceName it will say your missingname 1 or 2 or etc mine said AOL IMAP1

Change it to what you need it to say, for me AOL IMAP
Close the PHM program, now your back to messaging
make sure the name your trying to setup still says AOL IMAP, click next
finish the setup, click no when asked if you want to download messages, now it will come up, with all the email that was in that account before the issue, DELETE THE ACCOUNT now that you can, Reset the phone
make sure it no longer shows up on the TODAY SCREEN.
Now you can recreate, use a different name so that there is no possibility of remnant registry keys causing the issue again

Hope this helps someone
