Betty lost her voice (iQue 3600)

Betty seems to have lost her voice and I can't figure out how to get it back. Sounds works fine on the voice recorder, games, etc but Betty won't speak up when giving driving directions :(. Any ideas how I can get Betty to talk to me again?

You have probably lost the voice files. If you have a file manager, like FileZ, take a look on the internal memory for a bunch of *.vpm files. They will be numbered, eg. 0001.vpm up to 0119.vpm.

Did you install the free Garmen utility "Voice Guidance Backup"? If so, and if you ran it once to back the files up to the card, you can use a file manager like FileZ to copy them back back to the internal memory. They will be in a folder called VPM on the card and they'll be named 001.vpm.pdb to 0119.vpm.pdb.

If you have used a backup manager like CardBkup you can do a partial restore of just the *.vpm files from any backup on the card. If they are missing, selecting Partial Restore should have them already checked for you.

If none of that applies, they should have been copied to the PC during hotsyncs and a hotsync should see that they are gone and restore them for you.

And if none of that works the files should be sitting on the PC in the folder named C:\Program Files\Palm\Add-on. They will be named 0001.vpm.pdb to 0119.vpm.pdb. If you have a card reader you can copy the files to your SD card, then use FileZ to copy from the card to the internal memory.

And if all else fails you should be able to reinstall them from your original CD.

What we tend to forget is that when you first setup Betty there is a sequence that makes you pick the desired language and then the right files are synced in. My rma'd unit worked fine except for the verbal directions and then someone on here reminded me to do a reinstall of these vpm files and that fixed it.
