I recently purchased an M505 Palm about 2-weeks ago to replace my M105 which I gave to my daughter.

I used it for a few days and experienced a "Fatal Exeption". Unfortunately, I was out at the time and did not have something to use to do a reset - when I finally got home, it took 3 tries but finally was able to reset.

A few days later, I experienced two more fatal exceptions. After resetting, I was unable to do any synchronization. I called the support line in Toronto (long distance for me!). Tech walked me through the setup on my laptop (running Win 2000 professional) and said everything was setup ok. He suggested I take it back to where I purchased it (Price Club) and get a new one which I did yesterday. Today, after synchronizing I got another Fatal Exception. I was able to reset after 2-tries and was able to synchronize and get everything back.

My question is - has anyone experienced getting a Fatal Exception on a regular basis? Is there something I can do to stop this from happening in the future? Your advice would greatly be appreciated!

Do you have any 3rd party software installed? There may be a corrupted app or database.

If it is not software, perhaps it is static electricity. I don't know how you would reduce static without using special cloths and protective materials.

Thanks for the info.

I usually check new software on PalmBoulevard in the mornings.

I read a lot of stuff relating to static electricity and the SUDS problem.

My daughter is buying me a hard case to carry the palm around so that should stop some static.

On the other hand, I did suspect that a downloaded app might be the cause. For this reason, I'm following the same policy I have for my laptop and stand alone PC - only have apps that you use frequently stored on your computer. For others, download, install, try them out and delete them from the system. If you do require them, re-install - it also saves space!

I was looking at 32meg memory cards last night - might purchase one and keep all new downloads on it.

Yeah, I had a major problem from a corrupted game. Everything became ok once I deleted it. I didn't play it much anyway.

Don't get a 32MB (approx. $30). 64MB SD (approx. $40) has much better $/MB.

Thanks for your comments. I'm glad that I'm not the only one who has experienced this type of problem.

Thanks John for your suggestion. I would be more than happy to get a 65meg card for $40!

Unfortunately, $40US is equal to $64 Canadian (exchange rate is about 52 to 55% - ouch!)

The only good part of the whole thing was that my M505 Palm cost me $379.99 Canadian plus 8% Goods & Services tax plus 7% Provincial (state) taxes.
