(Sorry If this question has been answered recently)
I need your help! Someone gave me a Palm IIIc without a cradle/charger. I figured that I could just buy a new one. In the meantime, I decided to charge it on a co-workers universal USB charger. The battery is completely dead and when I connect it to the charger nothing happens. I've also hit reset while its connected and still nothing. It did work once! I saw it with my own eyes. Can anyone help?
Best,
Hez

The USB charger has a Palm IIIc connector?

Well, its supposedly a universal charger. a friend of mine bought it because something happened to her charger and she uses it on another model. anyway, i have no idea what is going on. it doens't charge in any cradle/charger I put it in and Palm Support was no help. they told me to reinitialize my battery by doing a soft reset, but the thing is, it has no power so nothing works. It's not that the battery is dead, its also that when its connected to a charger the unit doens't work at all. I so don't want to have to buy a new cradle/charger, they're like $50! I guess I'll need one anyway, right?

Universal means it would fit in any Palm, but the IIIc is the only one using that connector that needs +5V. Perhaps you can check if pin 9 has +5V:

It might be a universal sync'ing cable, that cannot recharge. Such cables cost half as much as a charge/sync cable.

you know, i think you're right about that. i can't find the voltage marked anywhere on the cable. it may only be for a sync. tho i thought my co-worker said it was for charging. thanks. i'll just suck it up and buy a new cradle. ugh. have a great day.

A charge/sync cable is cheaper at $30. Still kind of a ripoff for 2 connectors and a cable.
I went cheapo: I got a cheapy charger for $10 and a sync cable for $10.
