Palm V OS upgrade

I wonder if anyone can help - I'm having a similar problem to Yael. I have a Palm V with OS 3.3, I looked at the Palm site and tried to upgrade the OS to 3.5.2 (and then wanted to go to 4.x). I have downloaded the update but when I try to install it I get an error message saying that I need to have a minimum of OS 3.5 to do so. The Palm site matrix seems to show the update as being appropriate for a device using OS 3.1 (so I assumed that 3.3 would be ok to do the update) but as mine is running 3.3 should I downgrade first ?
Solving this would be really handy - appreciation and thanks in advance.

As you know, I don't know the solution, but I do know that downgrade won't halp because I started with 3.1 version!
Meanwhile yestarday I was at a palm store and ask there - they explaind to me that the problem is that there is an upgrade version - but for V version is for sale only...
If you hear anything else - please let me know...

So are the people at the Palm store saying that the upgrade matrix on the Palm web site is incorrect ? This sounds like typical palm support to me !

I am not sure, I couldn't find any where on palm web site an upgrade to 3.5 for V palm...
I realy hope that I am wrong...

This is the matrix the I'm talking about, http://www.palm.com/support/downloads/downloads_prev.html check this out. The update to 3.5.3 is a free update, however the upgrade to 4.1 costs. I assume that Palm support are saying that this is incorrect !!

Sorry, the link seem to be broken, any how I downloaded the update but it seem to be update for those who already have the 3.5.0 version (or above).
I also have palm m100 with 3.5.0 OS and there the update did work, the problem is that before we operate the update we need to operate the upgrade...

Updates tend to be a patch or a revision for something that didn't work properly or was found to have a regular problem after release and is therefore free (usually!!), an upgrade has either new or modified features, and therefore costs. Unfortunately this still doesn't help with the problem. The Palm support matrix claims that the 3.5.3 update is suitable for the Palm V running OS 3.1 but it's not, so how does one get from 3.1 to 3.5.3 ???? where / what is the interim update or step ?

You need to upgrade your Palm V 3.3 to 3.5 first. Only then can you update to 3.5.3. I believe at one time Palm was selling 3.5 Upgrade CD's. The 3.5 upgrade is free only for the Vx; all other models you have to pay for it, if it is still available.

I upgraded my palm V directly from 3.3 to 4.1. Not much difference in speed. Some added bells and whistles and that's about it.

Yeah, the palm upgrade/update matrix is misleading.

thank you - I guess you right about the buying option, although I could find no where on the palm site a buying offer.
Any how the perpose of upgrading the OS as far as I care - is not speed or sounds. I have some program that I want which work only on 3.5 OS (or above)...

I tried the Vx version anyway but surprise surprise it recognised that the device I was trying to upgrade was a V not a Vx and wouldn't run, which was nice !!

I guess that I'm stuck with 3.3 unless I buy (just call me squeaky :-) !! Anyone got any ideas ?).

I bought a 4.1 CD from palm, and had it shipped. I was able to upgrade my used pam V with OS 3.1 to OS 4.1 with no problems. You must buy the CD to get to 4.1

Ok, thanks to all that have contributed to this thread. I have now found an upgrade from 3.1 to 3.5 which works (much appreciation to dkhaw and friends) and everything seems to be working now with the 3.5.x update / upgrade. I'll check this out and if I need to buy the upgrade to 4.1.x I'll do so.

Where do I find the Palm OS 3.5.3 upgrade?
I hav v 3.1 and dowloaded the file from www.palm.com and it wont work at all just start and nothing happens. Where to find the upgrade for palm V to version 3.3 and version 3.5.0??
