Are you sure it's not your mouse?

I'm sorry, since my mother tongue is french, I don't always get it!!!
Do you think I could add a spring to the clamshell in order to transform my clié into a mouse trap!

I don't think that would be covered under the warranty.

But I digress...

What did you do about the squeaking hinge? I am starting to notice my hinge gets tight when cold.

I have a very well-used NR70V, and not only did my hinge start squeaking, it also starting to bind a bit, after only a couple months! Fortunately, the thing is quite easy to open up with a very small screwdriver. (Make sure you have the right screwdriver for the job so you don't destroy your screws.) Just take the five or so screws off the back, plus the one on the side for the battery cover, and it will open right up. (Don't worry, nothing is going to fall out!) Once you have it open it will be very easy to see where to put some lube. In my opinion, you will NOT be able to effectively lubricate it without removing the back of the case! I initially used a lightweight teflon-based spray lube, but it lasted less than a month before the problem came back. So I used a slightly heavier liquid lube and after a few drops it was better than new, and has stayed that way for about three months or so to date.

BTW...when you have it open...if you have ever had the screen seem "loose"...i.e., when closed, there is a little play...look for a couple screws on the inside that fasten the hinge to the body, and make sure they are tight. One of my hinge screws worked itself quite loose somehow, fortunately it was easy to get at when open.

What king of lube did you use?

I'm a bit scared to open the Clié, can this cause any probelm with the warranty or I'm I too chicken...

The stuff I used that worked very well was Boeshield T-9 in a little drop bottle...I don't know where you'd find it, I think I ordered through a bicycle parts catalog a while ago, I use it for chain lube on my bikes.

I don't have any idea about voiding the warranty. Unless you spilled coffee on it while it was open or something, I don't think that they would ever be able to tell that you had opened it. As long as you are careful, you shouldn't have any problems if you decide to open it...it's not going to split into a million pieces when you open it or anything. It's your Clie and your decision though. :-)
