internet downloading

I've just bought a m130 and I'm a complete beginner with this PDA things. Could anyone please tell me if there is a way to connect to the internet without physically hooking up my palm to my computer? What is a mobile internet? What do I need? Also, I've tried to download some freeware and I can see the file transfer to my palm when I use the hotsync but then when I try to find it on my palm, I can't. Any suggestions?
