Afternoon Everyone,

I use an Ipaq 1910 PDA, and sync with the laptop continuously. I run Windows 2000 pro, and Microsoft Outlook.

After a few problems recently, I had to reinstall the ActiveSync software (from the original disk, version 3.5, which worked fine previously, but took several tries to reinstall), but although it syncs everything I need between the two machines as it used to, I get reminded every so often with a pop up on the PDA saying: -

"Trouble Connecting Unable to connect with current settings. To change your connection settings, tap Settings."

The Microsoft website offers a resolution by activating the 'stop' button when disconnecting, but this is greyed out on my laptop. This pop up causes the battery on the Ipaq to run down as the lights all come on and it sometimes starts squeaking at me!

Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong please?

Kind regards,

Mike

First, soft reset the iPAQ, and also try to disable Mobile Sync Schedule on your device.

Afternoon AnswerDude,

You know, I think you've hit on it, I noticed after your reply that there was a tick was in the second box down on the PDA schedule 'When not connected etc. etc.'!

I've undone that tick and expect it not to squeak back to me anymore!!

Very many thanks indeed for getting back so soon! I'll let you know if I get a result.

Kind regards,

Mike

Very any thanks for solving the problem so easily - have you considered looking at the meaning of life recently?

Answer Dude (or any other similarly talented guy!)
I also have a problem with Activesync, which I can't find has been addressed in this forum.
with your help, I persuaded my new NEC 900C to talk to my PC at home and synched files TO the NEC. I have now set up the other partnership at work and ticked the Files Option, to sync FROM the NEC to the work PC. which it does, but the folder it syncs to (N:\bluck\NECMobilePro900 My Documents) is empty. I've checked an example document and searched for it, just to make sure it wasn't synching to another folder, but it isn't.

any ideas? Both PCs run XP Pro. AS version 3.7 at work and 4.2 at home, but only 'cos I've not got round to updating AS at work.

Are you having the same problem with both PC's? Did you soft reset the pda and restart the desktop? Do other Activesync functions work properly? Can you simply click explore on desktop Activesync after connecting the pda and copy files between pda and desktop?

just the work PC. reset and restarted and all that happened is that the one document that I had "manually" dragged and dropped from NEC to PC has now synchronised back to the NEC - not back into the same sub-folder, but it couldn't know that, so that is not its fault.
Other AS functions appear OK - I can browse the NEC and copy manually between devices.
FWIW, I see the following in AS Options/Files/Settings/"On this computer synchronise the files in this folder". The folder in question is the sync destination as my previous post, but the only things in there are the two files I dragged myself. Do I need to drag EVERY document and subfolder from the NEC into this desktop folder, before synchronisation will take place? If so, what is the implication for any new file I create?
I'm confused!!

Activesync cannot sync outside My Documents folder without 3rd party software.

Activesync cannot sync outside My Documents folder without 3rd party software.
Sorry, Mate. I don't quite follow. All the documents on the NEC are in the My Documents folder on it, they sync to a sub-folder of My Documents on my home PC and likewise on the work one. Do not be misled about the one doc I dragged from its subfolder that synched back, but not to its original sub folder. I know that's not reasonable. but that's not the problem. the problem is that AS created a folder on my work PC to contain the synched copies, but then didn't actually put any sync copies there, even though it says it has synched!!!!! it's driving me mad.

Hi

My guess is that it is a bug in AS. I suggest you upgrade to the latest version and try to sync with that. You could try the following and let us know what the result is.

1) Copy your document manually from NEC to PC.
2) Make a small chamge to that document on the NEC and save it
3) Sync the NEC and PC.

Your document should appear on your PC. One thing to check is that the date/time and timezone on the PC and NEC are the same.

Good luck

Patrick
