Well, my dad has had an i Que 3600 for a long time now, and he never really uses it. Well I was sitting around after finishing up my homework, and realized it would be neat to get it in working order again. To begin with, it would shutt off instantly if disconnected from its cradle, where it has been living for the past 2 years, next to the computer. After reading on the forums, I deducted the battery was dead, so I turned down the screen brightness, and bingo, first time in 2 years its functioned off its cradle. Well, I decided to turn up the brightness and it froze! Reset button does nothing, so I guess i have to wait for the battery to die. I am pretty new to the software, and have installed palm desktop to connect the i Que, which worked pretty well. I am currently trying to find a way to see what version of the OS I have, as Germin's site has many warnings concerning installing V.4 without V.3 installed..etc. Any help would be appreciated. My next item on the list is it order a new battery, as this one is poor at best. Thanks allot, and hopefully some of you can offer me some introductory words or links!

Welcome to the forum, Dudeman. You're probably right about the condition of the battery. To check on the version of OS you're running, tap on the menu icon, Info from the App menu then Version. Look for the line that reads Palm OS. As far as resets, there are numerous types you can try:
Palm Resets
Soft Reset - The most common type of reset. Performed by pushing the reset button on the back of the unit.
Warm Reset - Also referred to as an extensions off reset or a no-notify reset. This reset is useful if an errant piece of software has your device stuck in a reset loop. Bypasses any system extensions. Once you delete the problem program, perform a soft reset to return your device to normal.
To perform, press the reset button while holding the scroll-up button. Release when the Palm Powered logo appears.
Hard Reset - Clears out all the contents of RAM and restores your device to factory default settings. GPS settings are still maintained in non volatile memory.
To perform, press the reset button while holding the power button. Release when the Palm Powered logo appears.
Extended Hard Reset - This is the same as a hard reset except the default records are not created.
To perform, follow the steps for a hard reset. When prompted to erase all data, press and hold the scroll-up button. while holding the scroll-up button, press and release the 4 hard buttons on the front of the unit one at a time.
Debug Reset - Not of much use to anyone other than developers. Sometimes used for upgrading the OS.
To perform, press the reset button while holding the scroll-down button. The iQue will display a screen full of colored boxes. A soft reset will restore normal functionality.
These next resets are specific only to the iQue...
Master Clear - press the reset button while holding the jog wheel in.
Non Volatile Reset - This reset clears out all the GPS data and restores all GPS settings to factory defaults. Particularly useful for our European users where the Egnos sats can sometimes send out test data the iQue doesn't like.
To perform, press and hold the ESC button and the datebook button while pressing the reset button. Hold the ESC and datebook buttons for at least 10 seconds after reset and release.
Reset While Charging - Battery Recalibrate
--------------------------------------
To perform the same effective action, take the iQue OUT of the cradle, unplug the power cord that powers the cradle and insert it into the power hole in the bottom of the iQue. You can then perform the reset via the reset hole on the back of the iQue.
After performing the soft reset leave unit undisturbed to complete a 3 hour charge cycle, this completes the process.

Check the Thread just below yours for battery info: 1800mah iQue Battery with Plug & Tools.
Also check out all the things you can do with the unit. I have Quicken,150 mp3's,5 or 6 picture albums, blood pressure data, a program that runs my tread mill, etc.
Good Luck

+1 on the battery thing and that the iQue 3600 is still a valid tool. Just be prepared for the occasional surprise and roll with it. :)

Wow, I have to admit I am surprised at the responses, after less than 24 hours! :D First off, I just got home from school, and the i Que was still frozen! The green light was on but the screen was blank. So, I was pleasantly surprised to read the posts. Low and behold, after preforming my first hard reset, the i Que restarted, and also, works with the screen brightness at full! The shutting off while not in cradle problem seems to have vanished with 3/4batt holding while i actually learn how to use this thing . I am running V 4.5G, so I assume my dad at least kept the os up to date. Unfortunately I have 3 1gb sd cards around my house, but i cannot find them, so that will have to wait. In the mean time, I will be using a 32mb card  . I guess I will try and install some basic applications, as well as a base map of northern US, which will probably take me all night to figure out :p . Again, thanks so much for the warm welcome, and kind words/help. Trust me when I tell you, I know how newbies on forums can be..... As for a new battery, I am going to wait until my dad gets back from vacation to try and convince him he NEEDS the new battery (Unfortunately I have no free money because I use it all on my car :o ). If anyone would be so kind as to direct me to their favorite downloads..etc. I would be very appreciative.
Thanks, Dudeman

Also check these two links for excellent free software..
What are your interests? As pointed out by others, there is a lot of SW out there, but I we know what your're interested in we might be able to point you to specific software...

Hello,
I'm thinking of purchasing a Palm TX as my first ever PDA. Reviews I've read seem to be generally positive. Two questions: 1. Is this unit user friendly? and 2. What do those of you "in the know" think about purchasing refurbished units?

Hi Jadecat,
Regarding refurbished units, it depends where you buy it from and what warranty they promise. Buyer Beware.
Re the TX, you might have better luck asking about that unit in the T/TX forum. This one is focused on the Garmin iQue PDA/GPS handhelod.

Well, currently I am enjoying this for the speed feature alone. MY speedometer is broken, so it is nice in that respect :p . Generally I like to work on cars, and such, a good example would be after downloading birdwatch, my friends and I each agreed that the "Accel" feature was very neat. If there are any other related items, that would be great. Another question I have is, does this have blue tooth capabilities? A friend of mine said it probably did. I figure any of you can answer that faster then I would take to track it down in the manual. And also, I want to try and get this thing on the internet. Both my school, and my house has wireless internet, so I have tried briefly getting it to work, but I am very unfamiliar with how to use most of the options/features as you well know. If it would be easier for me to simply look at my manual, buy all means say so :). Looking forward to posts..

Unnfortunately, it has neither WiFi or BT, although it should have. Initial specs showed that it would have had the capability to add them, but by the time it was released that capability had been removed.
Alas.
There is only one way to get the iQue onto the web. It's called the Enfora Portfolio. See http://www.mobiletechreview.com/tips/enfora_wireless_portfolio.htm for a review. It's a big honkin' thing that looks like a woman's clutch purse, and the SW that cones with it sucks big time. It does work, but it's a nasty kludge. It's no longer in development, or sold by the company, but you can get them on eBay now and then.
I'm not into cars myself, but there are a number of tools that will allow to to connect the iQue to the cars computer for tuning and diagnostic purposes.

Well that is too bad, but I can live without that I guess.
As to you last paragraph!!!!! Any way to point me in the direction of this potential software? This crossed my mind but i figured it was too good to be true :p . Sound very interesting. O, btw, I broke the small plastic piece that holds on the leather cover. I E-mailed Garmin, and they replied in one day saying they would be happy to replace it for no fee! Great service eh? :)
