Are there any based PDAs, not PDA-Phones, that can hotsync with Outlook 2007 on Vista? Do they do this directly or do they they require third party software?

I have not heard of any specific devices that work with Vista. What I have heard or read is that many existing devices have issues connecting to Vista desktop computers, specifically when it comes to installing new programs.

However, I have read in another forum that some issues are being resolved by running ActiveSync, HotSync, and other PDA-related software in the Windows XP SP2 compatability mode. They also choose to run the app as the administrator user.

I don't have Vista, so I can't verify how well this works.

I too suffered under the Vista planned obsolesence program. I have a Cassiopeia E200 which worked wonderfully with XP, but gagged with Vista.

But with a little know-how and elbow grease, I was able to get it tamed, albeit somewhat of a kludge. Also, this one only works with PDAs that sync with a SERIAL connection.

Step 1: Install Virtual Machine. This is why USB PDAs don't work -- VM doesn't support USB. Yes, my E200 is a USB connect, but they make a neat little serial jig called the JK-744CV. Won't recharge the unit, but at least I get my data.
Step 2: Install an XP Virtual Machine (XPVM).
Step 3: Install Outlook on the XPVM.
Step 4: Install ActiveSync on the XPVM.
Step 5: Link your XPVM-Outlook's Personal Folders to your Vista's Personal Folders.
Step 6: Tell the XPVM to use the COM port that your PDA will connect to, otherwise the XPVM doesn't know that COM ports exist, and won't use them by default.
Step 7: Fire up active-sync in the XPVM and have it connect to your PDA.
Step 8: Sync your data.

The "rig" has some issues when you try to use Outlook in VISTA the same time your are syncing with your PDA, but I'm still experimenting with that.

Also PS: We all know how bad VISTA gags with 512 Meg. Try adding a VM on top of that!!! Make sure you're running 1 GIG RAM at least.

Someone please help me! I just got a Zire 31 palm pilot off of overstock.com. I tried to sync it with my outlook on my computer and it did not work. I have vista and outlook 2007. Is there ANY solution to this other than sending my palm pilot back? And if i do send it back, what palm pilot can i get to replace it at a cost of less than $100? thank you so much to the one who can help me!
