Today I bought a 64Mb CompactFlash card for my IPAQ 3600 running CE 3.0. My problem is that I can't get the Windows Media Player to see MP3 files on the storage card (it’s like you can’t set the file path to the Flash card). If I copy them from the Flash to the internal memory the Media Player sees and they plays them fine. That kind of defeats the purpose of extra memory though. Any insight on this matter will be greatly appreciated.

Have you created a My Documents directory on the CF and placed the files in that directory, or a directory under My Documents?

If I look at "My Device" I see the original "My Documents" folder and "Storage Card" fold with a little card symbol in the folder icon. I just tried creating another "My Documents" under the "Storage Card" folder, which didn't help. Is that what you wanted me to try? I also tried to place the entire "Storage Card" folder under the original "My Documents" folder, but it would not let me.

Do you have a formatting program? Do you have anything on the card that you wish to keep? If you format the card and specify (most formatters allow you to do this) that a My Documents folder be created, any problems there may have been accessing the card may be resolved.

No I haven't formatted the Flash card, I just plugged it my desktop reader, copied the MP3 files and plugged it into the IPAQ. On the desktop it does not say "Storage Card", just drive "E", so the IPAQ is creating the "Storage Card" folder. Is there a special IPAQ formatting program to make the Flash card look like the rest of the IPAQ memory? I have nothing of value on the flash card and will try to format if you could point me in a direction to find one, I don't think the IPAQ came with anything like that? It does seem odd that on the desktop I can just click on the Flash card song and it plays, but when I put it in the IPAQ, click on the very same file and it will not play (odd that the IPAQ's Windows Media Player seems to treat the Flash card memory as somehow different).

If you are able to copy files onto the CF storage then create
a "My Documents" folder in the storage card.

Then copy all the mp3's into this folder.

Make sure its called "MY Documents" without the quotes and
the first letters capitalized.

If you still have problems then check by

Good luck

After I created the My Documents folder on the storage card I guess I had to remove and reinstall the card for the system to see it, because after I did that it started working. Thanks Stevemw and bettyboop. Website such as this with input from experienced people are a real time and aggravation saver for novices such as myself!
