Hi All,

I'm trying to set up email on my Orange M3100 WM5.0 device and could do with some advice...

What I want to do is collect email over the phone network using my pop3 account details when I'm on the move, but receive it into an inbox which I can then sync with my laptop as and when I'm connected to it via USB...

Having some difficulty however... I've set up a a new account on the device ('My Work Email') with my pop3 settings and can happily send and receive mail into and from the Inbox, Outbox, Sent Mail etc. folders which were created in conjunction with the new account. But, when I want to Sync this inbox with my laptop, ActiveSync only seems to let me sync with the folders under 'Outlook E-mail', i.e. the default set of Inbox, Outbox, Drafts, Sent Mail folders for the default 'Outlook E-mail' account.

The trouble is that I can't seem to access the settings for the default 'Outlook E-mail' account/Inbox in order to receive my pop3 mail into that account/Inbox, and can't seem to tell active sync to sync a folder other than the default, i.e. the folder that I'm actually able to receive my pop3 mail from!

I'm have only a vague understanding of how Microsoft exchange etc. work, but I don't have an exchange server and don't really want /need to use one.

All I want to do is collect email over the phone network directly from my pop3 account when I'm on the move, and sync this inbox with my laptop when I'm at my desk...

Seems reasonable... But not so easy to do apparently????

Anyway, sure I'm missing something. So anyone who can shed a little light on this would be much appreciated!

Many Thanks!

-M

Thanks answer dude. I'm still a little confused however... I’m very clear on how to set up a pop3 ISP mail account, and how to sync with an Exchange server if you want to pick up your mail that way -- but it doesn’t seem possible to sync an Inbox with a laptop directly (no Exchange server in the equation) whilst using an ISP pop3 account to download messages to that same Inbox whilst on the move. It just doesn’t seem possible without having separate accounts/Inboxes to do the two operations.

An example would be, I sync outlook on my laptop with my mobile device just before I leave the office. This gives me all of my day’s email on my pocketPC. Then during my commute, I want to reply to one of the day’s emails and send the reply using the pop3 settings over the phone network. Then when I get back to the office in the morning, sync to my laptop so as my laptop then contains the Sent Mail copy (for example) saved on my mobile device at time of sending.

Currently, from what I understand this is not possible to do as it’s seemingly impossible to tie pop3 mail account settings to an inbox you’re syncing directly with a PC (not an Exchange server) because a: Active Sync only allows you to sync to the default Outlook E-mail account/inbox, and b: that default Outlook E-mail account/inbox doesn’t allow its settings to be changed (it doesn’t appear in the ‘Tap an account to change settings’ list  ).

Not sure if I’m missing something but sure this scenario’s a common requirement for chaps and chapette’s who’s company uses pop3 mail rather than a full blown remote exchange server.

Again, any advice much appreciated!

Thanks,

ActiveSync alone will sync only the default inbox and its subfolders. You will need to check on whether adding an app like Pocket Mirror or Intellisync will give you enough added sync options to meet your needs. Both work through the AS conduit but increase the sync reach beyond the default Outlook folders.
