I'm looking for a well priced PDA that would cost me about 200 to 400 dollars Canadian. I'm looking at Palm m505 or a Dell Axim X5. When I looked at Axim, it had everything i wanted but i need some expertise on this kinda thing! I need to take down notes on word, edit my powerpoint and use excel, and also be able to play games. Not tetris or somthing like that, but a more advanced game! Also MP3 capability would be good for me, but i can't decide because many people are saying Palm is better because its been used more! Please feel free to mail me at korean_legend@hotmail.com

Thank you!

You might want to try a Sony Clie model. I'm not sure how many of them have MP3 playback but I was looking at one that costs $250USD (don't know what that converts to Canadian...Sorry). Look at Sony.com and see what they have.

Yes, not to dis on palm, but it sounds like you want a clie. They are way better at word editing because of their high resolution screen(4x as much text). Also they are better for games for the same reason(high res). As for mp3, most clies will play mp3s, but check first. Cheers

It sounds like a pocket pc would do you better. Being that you are already familar with the Windows enviroment and Word, PPT, and Excel. Maybe a Dell Axim would be a good choice for you.

no, Pocket PCs don't have nearly as much software as Palms do. I think that a Clie would be just about right.

I don't think the Palm 505 would be right for what you say you'll be doing. If you must have the Palm OS, definitely look at some Sony models.

However, if you like the Windows feel, try the Dell Axim X5. It offers both CompactFlash and Secure Digital expansion. The only downside that you'll definitely see it the size. It is very big and bulky. Hope this helps.

If you are intent on getting a 505, Price Club (here in Ottawa) has an M505 for $290.00.

I am a loyal Palm user (m515), but from what you have described it sounds to me like the Dell is your answer.

My brother-in-law just got a Dell and loves it.

I feel the biggest atvantage is that the Dell offers both CF & SD slots. The screen is wonderful, it comes with all of the pocket pc software (pocket word, excel, powerpoint, etc...), mp3, video playback.

The Palm is somewhat quicker for taking notes, entering datebook events and working with your to-do lists. The pocket pc platform can do all of these, but it takes more "screen taps" to get to the input area.

Palms does offer more programs/games, but if your main concern is word, excel & powerpoint - get the Dell.

With the CompactFlash on the Dell, you can get an 802.11b WLAN card, something that is not yet available with Secure Digital. However, this doesn't matter if you're not going to use it. Just an example of what CompactFlash can do.

actually, I have heard that word and excel files translate BETTER between Palm and PC with docs to go than they do between PPC and PC. Seems ironic, but 'tis true. Go with Palm OS.
