I haven't seriously played with a WinCE/PPC unit since the HP 360LX, and even then not too serious, mostly having been heavily ensconced in the Palm OS world, but I figure I should give the WinCE/PPC/WM world a try again, particulary since getting a Slingbox...

So... I'd like to get a decent unit for $300 or less. It could be used (ebay, etc). I'm looking at the HP IPAQ hx2495 and the rx4240. Between these two, what are the relative merits ? I know the rx4240 has a slower CPU, and smaller screen, and appears to be landscape-mode oriented. Anything else ? Both have touchscreens of the same res ?

Any other choices in the same (or cheaper) range ? I could probably get a used Dell Axim 51 for about $200, it seems...

Lightweight, thin, with decent battery life and all other things you'd imagine for wanting to do Slingbox'ing are the desireable traits... Can all these units run off AC continuously (not just charge) ? Can they all accept USB charging/power ?

Thanks.

It depends on what you want to use the pda for. hx2495 was designed more towards business uses including finger print and security program and both cf and sd slots. Axim is always a good choice in term of price and features (new x51 is currently $300). If your main use is for multimedia, you may want to also look at iPAQ hx4700, it has large 4" and vga resolution, it's not a current model so you may be able to find used one at reasonable price.

Yes on the ac question.
Yes on usb but some 3rd party cable may not charge properly while the unit is on, the cradle does have a place to plug in ac adapter.
