Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : Storage Card lost data
the 8GB compact flash storage card I use with the my 2495 has lost the data or corrupted it twice now. the files it leaves behind are just symbols that i am unable to delete. the message i get is "write protected or blah blah blah". I don't know if it is because of something i am doing or the card, which seems odd to me; you'd think they'd have card design very robust by now... :confused:
what i know,
i use the cradle at work, disconnecting it when i need / want to use it
i use the power cord at home to recharge it. at times it is finicky (sp) about connecting, but i don't see how that affects the storage card???:confused:
any useful input is greatly appreciated.

What programs you use regularly that access storage card? Are you running HP ProtectTools?
AnswerDude! Thanks for replying.
The only program is windows media because I store only music, videos and photos etc.
i was running hp protect tools for a very short while about a month ago, but stopped because it kept turning on the pda when i didn't need it running.
thanks again,
sds

do you have a card reader to access CF from PC? If so you might be able to salvage those files useing a program that you can download, Unable to remember thier names, maybe answer dude has them. Or as last resort move those files uncorrupted to pc and format CF card. Good luck.

I had exactly the same thing happen, everything was ok with xp but it only did it when i had vista on, dont know if this was the culprit though.
Even the recovery programs didnt help much as most of them seem only to recover photos. The thing i want to know is why did this happen and how?
I can't help with the "why", but my friend in IT thinks it is the card and is trying to assist me in replacing it through the supplier. Any new thoughts, AnswerMan?:)
I use XP, and have never used VISTA, not that it helps this thread any:rolleyes:

The desktop data recovery program can usually restore any file not just picture files, you just have to specify file extensions. And be sure to recover to different drive than the source. This is a free one;

There are also WM storage card utilities that may be able to diagnose storage card problems;
Flash Format
http://www.cnetx.com/format/
StorageTools

Pocket Mechanic

Thanks, AnswerDude! We'll evaluate your offerings. Appreciate the help!

Well, the card is going back. Should have a new one by month's end.

I just wanted to close this thread out on a positive note. Merritline did a stand up job for me. When I couldn't find my receipt, they sent me the copy w/o hassle, and sent off my new storage card straight away upon receipt of my nonfunctioning one. Good folks.
