I have a T-Mobile MDA that freezes with MP3 podcasts no matter what media player I use on it. It requires a soft reset. I've tried also a hard reset with no luck.

The podcasts I want to play are about 22MB. I am playing them from a 2GB storage card. At the time I want to play them I usually have about 25MB storage space and 18MB program space.

I'm wondering whether it is necessary to have enough program space on the device when I play the MP3. Is the whole file moved to the main storage from the storage card and then played from there? If that were the case I was thinking I could split the files in half, making them smaller to play.

The thing is that I never had these problems when I played the podcasts using the same setup on my IPAQ 4155. It worked perfectly. In fact, until I figure out this problem I am using the old IPAQ as an MP3 player and the MDA for everything else. I'm back to 2 devices which was the reason I got the MDA in the first place, to carry only one device for everything.

Does anyone have any experience with this or have any ideas for me? I would especially want to know if anyone has a similar setup with a MDA and is having no problems playing media on it. Because if my unit has a flaw, I would want to replace it while it is under warranty. I just got in at the beginning of January.

Thanks, Michele

What media players have you tried? And have you played this particular mp3 on a desktop to see if it's not damaged?

Oh thanks Answerdude,
I did try it on the desktop (which was fine) and I tried different media players on the device. I also reformatted the card. Finally I did an experiment with my husband's MDA which is the same as mine and we bought them at the same time. With my device hard reset (to be fresh and not confounded by any other software), I confirmed the problem. Then I ran the same file, using the same expansion card and the same media player on my husbands and it played fine.

So after 2 days of messing with it, I called T-Mobile. Based on my experiment, they are sending me another unit. It's fine with me. I had something like this with a laptop before where every company blamed it on the other's software. It turned out to be a bad media card.
